Expanding Our Living Area With an Outdoor Addition Part 3

February 28, 2021 by Kimberly Snyder 6 Comments

Spread the love

One of the perks of living in Sunny Southwest Florida is the ability to enjoy your backyard almost year-round!

A week before Christmas, this piece of equipment showed up in the front yard.

Endloader in front yard

After prepping the back yard for the pool, it was time to actually dig the hole!  We were so excited!  Between the time the area was prepped and the time they came to dig the pool, they had been back to mark off the area so the backhoe operator would know where to dig.  I should mention that a week or so before they came to prep the area, the guy from JULIE came and marked where the electrical wires and other important cables were buried so nothing would get accidentally cut during the pool build.

Taking the first “bite”:

Endloader bucket digging

endloader scoop of dirt

The backhoe continued this process until the hole was big enough for several of the guys to jump in and start hand digging.  They had to cut out the steps and the swim out area as well as the different spots where the drain, lights, and other important parts would be.  This type of work was too fine to be done by the machine, it had to be done by hand.

I was certain that the bucket was going to scoop up at least one of the workers by mistake but thankfully that did not happen!

After the crew was done for the day, the hole was ready for the gunnite.  a lot of  the dirt that had been in the hole was piled around the construction area.  They would use this dirt for fill later in the project.

After much research, we had chosen Superior Pools of Southwest Florida to be our pool builder.  I outlined the process of choosing a pool builder here:

I am really looking forward to the pool/expanded lanai/outdoor kitchen project being completed.  I can’t wait to make my first pizza on the Big Green Egg we plan to purchase!

How very exciting! I would love a pool but realistically, it’s not warm for enough days of the year to make it worthwhile. Can’t wait to see it finished.

Even though it is warm(hot& humid) a large portion of the year, we did get a heater installed so we could warm up the water if we need too!

I am so looking forward to the extra space for entertaining. I will also have more storage for my crafting supplies.

      Thanks for reading!!
