Summertime is here and it is thyme to celebrate the Red, White & Blue! I love to decorate with these three colors throughout the Summer! I’d love to share my favorite rustic patriotic home decor ideas with you!
Let’s Start from the Top
Gracie says “Grab your hats, folks! It is Thyme to Celebrate!”
She also wants to give a shout out to the memory of her “grandma” being honored in the Bement, IL 4th of July parade in 2013. Gracie thinks her hat looks very similar to her grandma’s hat!
My Mom was honored in the local 4th of July Parade in 2013 for her years of community service. She loved her country very much and was a true servant. She volunteered countless numbers of hours to various groups and organizations.
My Mom also loved to decorate her tables for the various holidays. She had several different sets of dishes and lots of different things to use in the center of the table. She loved to decorate with the American Flag and other red, white and blue items. I think I may have inherited my decorating gene from her!
Rustic Patriotic Home Decor Ideas for the Table
One of the cutest things I found when I was going thru her things was this adorable California Farmhouse relish set! I love to use it when we have a cookout!
Her California Farmhouse dishes are yellow and cream with a touch of green and brick red. I like to add a red & white runner to pull out the red tones as well as centerpiece featuring bright red flowers. To see how I put together the Red & White European Dish garden, please see this post: Red & White European Dish Garden for Spring
With all the various summer holiday celebrations, I try to get a jump start on decorating. I went thru my stash of material and found this piece of oilcloth with an American flag motif. It makes a great base for my centerpiece for the lanai dining table. Since it is oilcloth, it is easy to clean in case something gets spilled on it. It can be wiped off with a spritz of spray cleaner and dried with a towel.
To add a touch of whimsy to one of my rustic patriotic home decor ideas, I simply added these cute pinwheels to the tops of my trusty wooden spindles! I love how versatile these spindles are! I have used them several times since finding them in the bottom of the closet when I was working on this project!
A barnwood “love” sign gives a rustic accent to the display. The sign was actually a Valentine’s Day sign that I found in the sale section after Valentine’s Day last year. Since “Love” is a big part of my decorating theme again this year , I have been using it quite a bit. I am trying to make an effort to find decor items that can be used for more than one season.
The glass rectangle shaped plates are part of a snack set. Instead of using the small punch cup that comes with the set, I decided to use the small plastic hats . When it is thyme to eat, I will line the hats with plastic wrap and add pasta salad.
Another Alternative
To add a floral touch to the holiday celebrations, I also made a tablescape with this piece of denim blue fabric with embroidered flowers.

Last Spring, I gave this corner cabinet a much needed refresh. All of the information and the steps I took for the makeover can be found here: Chalk Paint Furniture Ideas ORC Week 6 . I love to use this cabinet to display my collection of restaurant dishes and my Mom’s Pfaltzgraff Heritage dishes. I left the space in the middle of the 2nd from the top shelf for a Pfaltzgraff pitcher that has currently “gone missing”. I have no idea where it is but I know it is here somewhere! You can see it in the before picture below. That picture was taken last summer.
How could I possibly misplace an item this large? Does that ever happen to you?
Quick Tips for Adding Rustic Patriotic Touches
If you find yourself running a bit behind in your holiday decorating, here are my quick tips! All you really need is an assortment of American flags on wooden sticks and a few minutes time and BAM… you’re ready to celebrate!
I found two different sizes of American flags on Amazon. Of course, there are more sizes available but I find the 4 x 6 and the 12 x 8 inch variety will work great for your interior decorating! They will even work outside!
I also added a link for a 3 hole base that will hold three 4 x 6 ” flags.

Let’s Get Ready to Decorate!
Once you have your two sizes of American flags , you are ready to start! I basically run around the house and find places to stick the flags and I am done! In all honesty, I do like to take the time to make the summer themed dough bowl . The details behind making it can be found here:
The summer dough bowl display is quick and easy to put together and can add a festive touch to your home all through the summer and even until the World Series is over if you are a true baseball fan!

Flags & Flowers
I have several silk arrangements around the house. I simply added three flags to this one and moved it to a different location and it looks ready for the 4th, don’t you think?
The arrangement in the antique basket is accented with an American flag. The flag not only adds a festive 4th of July touch, it also adds some height to the arrangement, making the vignette stand out. The S on the table is from an old sign. The patriotic inspired sign also adds additional interest to this corner of the gathering room.
This outdoor planter just needed a flag added to the center of the pot and it too was ready to show off for the holiday!
I could even add a waterproof bow to the side to add even more sparkle to the pot! If I have thyme in the next couple of days, I might do that!
A Farmhouse Touch for the 4th
This cute primitive bench was one of the many treasures I brought to Florida from the family farmhouse. The little bench wasn’t always so cute, though! The story behind its transformation can be found here:
Now it is thyme to relax!
