Easy Summer Decorating Idea

May 26, 2023 by Kimberly Snyder 4 Comments

Spread the love

Do you need an easy Summer decorating idea?   Let me show you how to quickly add a patriotic accent to your Summer celebrations!

I love to take items I already have and add a few patriotic accents for an easy Summer decorating idea.  By incorporating touches of red, white and blue to your decor , you can be ready to celebrate in Patriotic style all summer!

Gracie says “Hold on to your hats, folks! Let’s Go!”

Gracie Mae Ready for the 4th

Red, Rustic & Reclaimed Patriotic Spindles

Since several of the summer celebrations are patriotic in nature, a set of wooden flags is the perfect “topper” for a trio of  spindles!  To soften my display, I added two pots of Proven Winners Diamond Snow accented with patriotic ribbon to the trio of flag spindles.

Let me show you how easy this was to put together!

If you have been following me for awhile, you might recognize this set of wooden spindles.   They were first introduced to my readers here.

I hadn’t used them in years and since finding them again, I have used them for every holiday except Easter!  They are the perfect size for use on a long table for a centerpiece or table scape.

A piece of reclaimed barn wood makes a great base for your display.  This piece came off of an old crib on my family’s former farmstead in Illinois.  More background about the assorted treasures I found during the downsizing process can be found in this post here.

Reclaimed Barn Wood

I also added two pots of Proven Winners Diamond Snow.  I love how fluffy the little flowers are.  It looks just like baby’s breath!

After gathering all your design elements, it is thyme to display them on the piece of barnwood.

Another view:

I placed a long linen runner down the center of the table.  The runner has narrow stripes of navy blue running along the edge.  To help bring out the navy blue, I used navy blue round placemats. The silver chargers are ready to hold whatever type of plate I decide to use for the holiday festivities.

One last look:

It honestly took me longer to gather the materials and carry them outside than it did to put the display together.  Since the spindles are wood and the flags are resin, they can stay out on our lanai for the entire summer season. I can easily lay them down if the wind comes up.  The pots of Diamond Snow can be transplanted into a patio pot after your celebration or you could send them home with quests as a party favor.

What is Diamond Snow?

In case you are curious, Diamond Snow is in the same family as Proven Winners Diamond Frost.  It is a fluffier version of Diamond Frost.  By “fluffier” , I mean it has more flowers on its stem and it seems to hold its shape better.  I recently realized that a couple of  my patio pots that I thought had Diamond Frost in them, actually had  Diamond Snow!

I still love Diamond Frost but I think I love Diamond Snow even more! More information about Diamond Snow can be found here: Proven Winners Diamond Snow.    To learn more about Diamond Frost, please see this post: Proven Winners Diamond Frost

Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Ex Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Philo, Illinois — a day that still feels as vivid as ever.

From prepping pots at the shop to seeing the landscaping come together, to standing off to the side during the reveal… it was one of those rare experiences where community, generosity, and purpose all collide in the best possible way.

There’s a photo in here of me with Will and Debbie — two wonderful people who volunteered alongside me that day. Will always wore those sunglasses; I still can’t see the sunglasses emoji without thinking of him. Both have since passed, and that picture has become a little treasure from a day we shared together.

I added a few newly rediscovered photos to my blog post this year, and it reminded me how meaningful it was to be part of something hopeful and lasting.

I pulled together this simple patriotic vignette with vintage touches, soft blues, and a few gentle pops of red. It’s amazing how a little fabric, a postcard, and a favorite finial can turn into something sweet for summer.

If you love soft Americana style, this one’s for you. ❤️🤍💙
