VacayStyle – A Capsule Wardrobe

Wearing the Martha's Vineyard convertible dress

I have struggled for years trying to define my style.  I have always liked to have a lot of options to choose from when it comes to deciding what to wear. ” Too much is never enough ” has always been my mantra especially in relation to clothing.

When Dave & I started traveling more after my Mom passed away, I realized I really needed to get my packing under control.  I am still struggling with it but I have found a company that really helps streamline my travel wardrobe.

VacayStyle is a female owned clothing company based in San Francisco, CA.  The clothing is designed and made in the USA!  The company specializes in mix & match collections that can work with pieces you already have in your wardrobe.

I found the company on line in the Summer of 2016 when I was looking for cute clothes for an upcoming short cruise.  The collections are named after vacation destinations.  The collections can be purchased as a group or the items can be purchased separately.  The collections are made up of 5 main pieces that work together to create 15 or more outfits!

The collections often include a versatile maxi dress that they call a convertible dress.  It can be worn as a sleeveless maxi dress or worn as a skirt.  I am wearing the Martha’s Vineyard Convertible dress in a large in the top picture.  It is currently on sale but only available in extra small.

I wore the Martha’s Vineyard dress when we were in Miami, Florida .  When I stepped out of the hotel room, there was a maid coming down the hall .  She paid me a compliment by saying “Wow”!

The company also makes two piece dresses that are amazing!  The tops can be worn with other items in your closet as well as worn with the matching skirt.  The skirts can also mix and match with other items in your closet or be worn as a sleeveless dress.  I do own several of the 2 piece dresses but couldn’t find a picture of me wearing one.

The above picture is one of my favorite pictures!  I am wearing the St Bart’s convertible dress as a maxi skirt.  The St Bart’s is no longer available.

For reference, I wear a large in the VacayStyle line.  There is a size chart on their website.  The owner, Elizabeth is very sweet to work with.   She has given me a code FARM30 for my readers to use on their purchases through December 31, 2020.  It will give you 30% off your purchase.  It can also be used on the Sale items but that does turn the Sale item into a Final Sale which means it can’t be returned .

I really can’t say enough good things about VacayStyle!  The clothing is super comfortable and easy to care for.  The clothing items aren’t just for vacations!  They can be worn in your daily life as well.

Every time I come back from a trip, I am determined to use the VacayStyle capsule concept in my daily wardrobe.  I haven’t been as successful at that as I would like to be but I keep trying!

Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Ex Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Philo, Illinois — a day that still feels as vivid as ever.

From prepping pots at the shop to seeing the landscaping come together, to standing off to the side during the reveal… it was one of those rare experiences where community, generosity, and purpose all collide in the best possible way.

There’s a photo in here of me with Will and Debbie — two wonderful people who volunteered alongside me that day. Will always wore those sunglasses; I still can’t see the sunglasses emoji without thinking of him. Both have since passed, and that picture has become a little treasure from a day we shared together.

I added a few newly rediscovered photos to my blog post this year, and it reminded me how meaningful it was to be part of something hopeful and lasting.

I pulled together this simple patriotic vignette with vintage touches, soft blues, and a few gentle pops of red. It’s amazing how a little fabric, a postcard, and a favorite finial can turn into something sweet for summer.

If you love soft Americana style, this one’s for you. ❤️🤍💙
