Tropical Twist to A Thanksgiving Themed Dough Bowl

November 14, 2025 by Kimberly Snyder 18 Comments

Spread the love

Thanksgiving is the perfect time to discover the symbolic meaning of the pineapple! Add this unique twist to your holiday dough bowl!

D0 you know how the pineapple came to be a symbol of hospitality?  I can’t think of a better thyme to delve into the meaning behind the pineapple than Thanksgiving!  From its prickly outer skin to its tropical origins, the pineapple has come to represent warmth, welcome, and abundance. These are all terms we often associate with Thanksgiving!

In many cultures, the pineapple is associated with friendship, generosity, and hospitality which makes it the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving centerpiece!  I’d love to share how I incorporated a few faux pineapples as well as pumpkins into a Thanksgiving arrangement!

Before We Get Started!

No matter how you arrived here today, whether you are one of my regular readers, found me via Google or you “hopped” over from a link party, I am so glad you are here!  My name is Kimberly and I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between!  Especially rusty and chippy items!

You may also notice that I like to spell time as thyme!  If you are curious why I do this, please check out this post Sprout Grow Bloom!

Symbolic Meaning of the Pineapple –

In many Caribbean cultures, the pineapple is celebrated not only for its sweet taste but also as a symbol of warmth and community. It is often associated with social gatherings, festivals, and culinary traditions, reinforcing its role as a centerpiece in communal meals. This connection underscores the pineapple’s representation of togetherness and the joy of sharing food, making it a beloved symbol of hospitality in these regions.

The pineapple has become an enduring symbol of hospitality and friendship, a reputation that has been cultivated over centuries. In the United States, particularly during the colonial era, the pineapple was often placed at the entrance of homes as a sign that guests were welcome. This tradition has continued through the years, with the fruit being featured in hospitality-related decorations, such as table centerpieces and decorative art. The presence of a pineapple in a home conveys a message of warmth and generosity, inviting friends and family to gather and share in joyous moments.

Pineapples were often displayed prominently in Colonial dining rooms, signifying that guests were not only welcome but cherished. This tradition evolved, and the fruit became a staple of hospitality across various cultures, cementing its place as a symbol of generosity and warmth.

Designing a tropical pineapple themed dough bowl is a perfect way to create a festive, welcoming atmosphere in your home during the autumn season.  This finished Thanksgiving dough bowl would look great on your dining table or coffee table.

I often re use decor items that I have on hand.  By repurposing a few things, I was able to turn my Halloween Themed Dough Bowl easily into a Tropical Thanksgiving Themed Dough Bowl.  It hardly took any thyme at all!

Here is how I changed it from Halloween

Halloween Themed Dough Bowl

to Thanksgiving!

Let’s Get Started

The first step was to remove all of the Halloween decorations and wipe out the bowl.  Even though I have several dough bowls in my collection, I added this oval one to my collection earlier this fall.  It is a little longer and not as deep as a few of my other ones.  Like the majority of my dough bowls, this one is a reproduction.

If you are looking for a dough bowl, I recommend getting one that is at least 20 to 22 inches long if it is rectangle or oval.  If it is round, I think is needs to be at least 10 inches across.  The majority of my dough bowls are reproductions but there are still some antique ones available.  A variety of reproduction ones are available on Amazon.  A word of caution: be sure to check the dimensions of the bowls before ordering.  A  friend of mine ordered one in a hurry and it turned out to be smaller than her hand!

The oak framed mirror behind the dough bowl has quite a cute story.  You can read all about here if you like!  The Story Behind The Mirror

To add a little extra height to the display, I added the rustic wooden riser to the center of the dough bowl.  It is the perfect size to use in this dough bowl.  The white color adds interest to the finished display.

I added the pumpkin candle rings on each side of the wooden riser like I had before.  If you don’t have candle rings, a few faux pumpkins or gourds would work too!  Again, please ignore the Halloween table cloth.

Next, I “borrowed” this candle ring from a display in the entryway.

Pumpkin Perfection! Decorating with Faux Pumpkins!

I thought it would be the perfect accent to a faux pineapple similar to the one below!

Beautiful, don’t you agree?

To complete the dough bowl arrangement, I added two additional faux pineapples .  The pineapples are sitting atop two pieces of reproduction architectural gingerbread.

A Few More Ideas

While I didn’t use them in this display, these battery operated pumpkin tea lights are just adorable.  They can be used in so many different ways during the Autumn season.  They would look cute at each person’s place setting on Thanksgiving Day.

What an interesting twist on Thanksgiving decor Kimberly! We eat a pineapple every week, (we’re far from tropical here in Canada), but I never thought to work it into our Fall decor or menu. Love it – especially with the dough bowl!

So pretty Kimberly! I’m going to remember this idea when I move back to Texas and it’s 90 outside on Thanksgiving Day! We sometimes eat lunch outside and swim right after. The symbolism of the pineapple makes it perfect for Thanksgiving!

I love a tropical twist. I remember seeing a pineapple carved like a Jack-o-lantern once. The salsa recipe will be saved. I love pineapple anything. Happy Thanksgiving.
