Reclaimed Barnwood Project Ideas

Looking for reclaimed barnwood decor ideas? Let me share several inspiring ideas for indoor and outdoor decor!

Is there gold in this old corn crib?  Maybe not gold in the true sense of the word but if you are a lover of primitive items and rustic, reclaimed barnwood then yes, I do think there is or at least was gold in that corn crib!

The photo was taken shortly after a thunderstorm blew thru the Central Illinois last year.  One of my friends tagged me on Facebook because she recognized the corn crib and house as being my family’s homestead.  Well, it was in my family until three years ago when I completed the sale.

Anyway, let’s talk about the corn crib and the barn and what I found in there!

The Outbuildings

corn crib at the Farm

Pictured above is that same corn crib a few years ago.  This is one of two corn cribs that were originally part of my family’s homestead in rural Central Illinois.  This one is still standing but its twin was dismantled in several years ago and stored in the barn pictured below.

The barn at the farmhouse

A little background: If you are just starting to follow me, my husband & I lived on my family homestead for a number of years.  After my parents’ passed away, we decided to start a new chapter of our lives in Florida.  The downsizing/moving to Florida journey is detailed in series of blog posts titled “Thyme to Let Go: How I Downsized the Family Homestead “.  The journey starts here: Thyme to Let Go1; How I Downsized the Family Homestead Part 1

One of the major endeavors was getting the barn cleaned out.  Some of the pieces of the corn crib had been used in various projects while we were all still living on the farm.  However, there was still quite a bit left so my realtor suggested listing it on Facebook Marketplace.

It wasn’t long before one of my Dad’s nieces contacted me to let me know her granddaughter was interested in the barn wood.  On Father’s Day two years ago, Alison and her family came with a trailer and loaded up the wood.  There was so much wood, it took two trips that day.  It was a rainy, dreary day.  I am not sure that is what Alison’s Dad and her husband really wanted to do on Father’s Day, but they were really good sports about it!  More about that Father’s Day outing can be found here:

Alison is my dad’s great great niece.  She and her daughter are pictured below with my Dad at a holiday get together about 14 years ago.  I know my Dad would be pleased that Allison and her family are now enjoying some pieces of the family history.

Not only did Allison and her husband make some great pieces for their outside, but they also used some of the barn wood in their home to make a barn wood accent wall!  It looks amazing, doesn’t it!

I may have saved a few pieces of barnwood for myself!

Barn wood & Barn Tin wall hangings

I had a local Florida artist make these wall hanging for me.  She used pieces of barn wood and barn tin that were in the barn.  The piece of wood for the seahorse wall hanging is actually a seat from a tree swing.  One of my cousins and her family lived at the farm before my parents moved there. Her dad built her a tree swing.

I use a small piece of barn wood that I had saved as part of a centerpiece.  I have used it for several different holiday festivities.

Not Barnwood but definitely a treasure that was found in the corn crib!

I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe God puts certain people in your path for a reason. An example of this occurred on Tuesday. It was colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy day. I was really nervous about how it would all work since it was my first time since I had my cancer surgery.

The nurse that was taking care of me in the pre op area turned out to be the same nurse who had prayed for me last year. My husband was in the parking lot of the medical center speaking with his friend who happened to work at the center with this particular nurse. I was very sick at the time and they prayed for my healing. It was great to be able to thank her in person and let her see that the prayers had been answered. ❤️

Then the anesthesiologist came in and told me about his cousin who had also been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer about a year ago. He mentioned some of the treatments his cousin had had and how important a positive attitude is. I was touched that he took the time to tell me about his cousin’s experience.

We had arranged in advance to have my husband’s friend as the nurse anesthesist. He was able to pray with us as well as reassure us about the procedure.

The procedure went well. The three polyps that the surgeon removed were sent to pathology. The report is already back and there no evidence of cancer. Prayers were answered again❤️
