One small blue wooden carrier styled for July 4th, herb planting, lavender season, and winter. Easy, charming seasonal decorating ideas for your home.
I’m finishing this post barely in thyme for the 4th, but honestly… that feels perfectly on brand for me. And it’s the perfect place to begin, because this little blue wooden carrier has become the star of my July decorating this year.
But the funny thing is — this carrier has been with me through every season. Winter, herb planting, lavender harvest, patriotic summer… it just keeps showing up, year after year, in the most unexpected ways.
And it comes with a story.
Years ago, after my birthday, my mom asked what I spent my birthday money on. I told her, “A carrier and a wooden box.” She looked at me and said, “Don’t you already have a lot of those?”
Well… yes. But this one was special.
I bought it from a friend who was moving — only to realize later that she had originally bought it from me, back when I had my flower shop/antique shop. So technically, this carrier just came home again.
And now it’s part of my Florida decorating life, showing up in every season with a new personality.
Today I’m sharing how this one little blue carrier works for at least three completely different looks — starting with July 4th and rewinding through the year.

Seasonal Wooden Carrier Styling
July 4th: Little Miss Firecracker
This year, the carrier jumped right into patriotic mode. The worn blue paint is perfect with red and white accents, and the rustic texture keeps everything from feeling too “new.”
I tucked in:
- vintage‑style firecracker boxes
- a small “Little Miss Firecracker” sign
- festive ribbon
- a few tiny plants for softness
It instantly became a cheerful porch vignette — bright, fun, and full of personality. The carrier grounds the whole arrangement and keeps it cohesive, even with all the bold colors.
This is the carrier’s celebration moment.

Early Summer: Lavender Harvest & Garden Styling
Before the fireworks and ribbons, the carrier was living a much quieter life — holding freshly cut lavender sprigs on the potting bench.

This is the soft, fragrant version of the carrier. Just a handful of stems tucked inside creates that “fresh from the garden” feeling.
I love pairing it with:
- lavender plant markers
- twine and vintage scissors
- a spool of ribbon
- a small herb pot nearby
It’s gentle, simple, and perfect for early summer. This is the carrier’s calm moment — soft colors, garden textures, and a little old‑fashioned charm.
I often keep it on my potting bench. Sometimes I use it to hold small plants.

Occasionally, it gets tucked on a shelf to add color to the display.

Winter: Cozy & Rustic
And if we rewind even further, we land in winter — when the carrier becomes a rustic display piece.
The worn blue paint pairs beautifully with:
- greenery
- pinecones
- small ornaments
- a candle tucked safely inside a jar
It has that “collected over time” look that makes winter décor feel warm and lived‑in. This is when the carrier’s age and patina really shine — the scuffs, the faded paint, the little imperfections.
This is the carrier’s nostalgic moment.
One year, I decided I needed something to showcase my collection of vintage Santa mugs and ceramic pieces. I decided to see if I could use the carrier to solve my problem. It is the perfect size to display some of my vintage Santa mugs and boots. By turning it on its side, it becomes a display cubby!
I tried styling it two different ways:

Why One Little Carrier Works All Year
Small carriers are one of the easiest, most versatile decorating pieces you can own. They work because:
- they’re portable
- they add instant texture
- they look good empty or filled
- they can be rustic, garden‑y, or festive
- they transition through seasons without effort
Whether you’re styling a porch, a potting bench, a kitchen counter, or a holiday vignette, a simple wooden carrier can do it all.
And if it happens to have a funny backstory and a little bit of sentimental charm? Even better.
Closing Thoughts
This little blue carrier has been with me through so many seasons — literally and figuratively. It’s one of those pieces that reminds me decorating doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes all you need is something simple, well‑loved, and easy to move from one spot to another.
I hope this inspires you to pull out a small carrier, caddy, or wooden box you already have and give it a new seasonal moment. Simple seasonal wooden carrier styling is a great way to incorporate your favorite treasures into your seasonal decorating. You might be surprised how many ways it can shine.
