Happy Heavenly 74th Anniversary to my Parents!

March 20, 2022 by Kimberly Snyder 2 Comments

A Tribute to My Parents on the day before their anniversary!

Rooted & established in Love

Sunday March 21, 1948 was Palm Sunday that year.  My parents were married in the afternoon.  I am told it was raining buckets.  There is an old Irish saying about the “happy is the bride rain fell upon”.  I guess there must be some truth to that as they were married 66 & 1/2 years before my Mom passed away.

Bob & Jeanne at the Beach in South Carolina

The picture above was taken some time in the 1990s.  My Dad’s swim trunks are a bit short…  They were in either North or South Carolina.  This is how I like to picture them in heaven.

Here is a picture of them a few years later with my youngest bonus son on the day of his high school graduation.  He sent me this picture a few years ago when his mom found it while she was sorting things to get ready to move.

The Wedding Dress

Mother & Daughter 7/10/93 wedding

I wore my Mom’s wedding dress when Dave and I got married.  I had the yoke and sleeves removed and lace and satin roses added to it.  I also wore her pearls.  At least one of her friends had worn the dress in the 1940s and my aunt also wore it when she got married in the 1950s.  At one time, my Mom had calculated how many years total the people that wore the dress had been married.  I don’t remember the exact number, but it was well over 150 years!  I shared a little more about the dress in this post: Happy Heavenly Birthday, Mom

And they lived happily ever after:

My parents moved to this farmstead after they had been married one year.  They lived in the big farmhouse for 52 years.  They then moved into this house that we had built in the backyard and lived there together another 13 years.

I refer to the farmhouse a lot in my posts.  I share some background to their marriage and life on the farm in this post The Farmhouse that Made me

and this one, too: Look What We Found in The Barn

Happy Anniversary, Mom & Dad! I miss you both so much!

Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Ex Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Philo, Illinois — a day that still feels as vivid as ever.

From prepping pots at the shop to seeing the landscaping come together, to standing off to the side during the reveal… it was one of those rare experiences where community, generosity, and purpose all collide in the best possible way.

There’s a photo in here of me with Will and Debbie — two wonderful people who volunteered alongside me that day. Will always wore those sunglasses; I still can’t see the sunglasses emoji without thinking of him. Both have since passed, and that picture has become a little treasure from a day we shared together.

I added a few newly rediscovered photos to my blog post this year, and it reminded me how meaningful it was to be part of something hopeful and lasting.

I pulled together this simple patriotic vignette with vintage touches, soft blues, and a few gentle pops of red. It’s amazing how a little fabric, a postcard, and a favorite finial can turn into something sweet for summer.

If you love soft Americana style, this one’s for you. ❤️🤍💙
