How do I express my personality when decorating for the Holidays? By adding Garden Style Holiday Decor, of course!
Making our entryway more welcoming had been on my to do list since we moved to Florida. The holiday season was the perfect time to add some Garden Style Holiday Decor!

Two things happened that inspired me to get busy and make it happen! The first was the need to move everything out of the lanai in anticipation of our backyard makeover. In addition to being a relaxing place to sit, our lanai functioned as my “greenhouse”. I kept a Baker’s rack in the lanai that served as a plant stand as well as an industrial cart that held plants and extra pots.
Adding Garden Style Holiday Decor to The Entryway
Our entryway is approximately 5 x 7. The simple screen door opens to a space with a concrete floor and screening on the west side. This entryway leads to a traditional wood entry door.
In order to clear out the lanai, we moved the baker’s rack into the entryway.
The Cart – Before
I also brought the industrial cart into the entryway. The cart was actually an estate sale find while we still lived in Illinois. When I purchased it, it was a taupe color. It definitely needed a makeover!
After –
My friend, Lisa, had spray painted the cart with a simple gray primer. It actually looks more blue than gray in the picture but it was a nice neutral color. As my friend ,Rick, would say ” Spray paint is our friend!”.
Garden Style Holiday Gathering in the Hog Trough
What was the second thing that happened that served as a much needed push to decorate the entryway? Well, it was my husband asking why I had brought back a rusty hog feeder from Illinois.
While working in the garage, my husband spied the hog trough. I found it in the barn during one of my trips to Illinois during the downsizing/moving process. I found quite a few treasures in the barn as well as the hog trough. You can read about my finds here:
Dave doesn’t really share my love of rusty, unique things. He didn’t want me to bring the hog trough in the house and frankly, I was out of table top space anyway so I decided it would be perfect in the entryway!
I already had the flower pots and the garden tools. I may need an intervention for my flower pot addiction. I may have brought 7 boxes of flower pots from Illinois! In my defense, you can do a lot of things with flower pots!
For example, this pot is laying on its side and nestled into a holiday candle ring!
Or you can make a Succulent Candle Holder!

Or fill a metal lantern with small terra cotta pots!
Back to the bowl filler….
A quick trip to the local Bealls outlet netted a large bag of Holiday bowl filler . I added some shells that I already had and filled the trough. To finish the display, I added a few jingle bells, a couple of small flower pots, a wooded ornament and a set of garden tools.
I even had enough bowl filler left over so I added it to the dough bowl that I keep on the coffee table in the gathering room.
I added the wood hand painted Santa ornament to the bowl and changed the battery candle to a larger , chunkier style.
I used some of the pine pics that I made using the technique described here: Update Your Silk Flowers with Spray Paint!

I am really happy with the way the entryway is finally coming together!
