Before We Get Started-
It is the first Thursday of June and that means it is a special day on the blog! Not only am I going to share my favorite 4th of July decorating tips , I am joining together with several of my blogging friends. My friend, Carol from Blue Sky At Home organizes these monthly blog hops for us! I appreciate her hard work! This month’s theme is 4th of July, one of our nation’s biggest holidays. From tabletop decor to baseball inspired decorations, there are a bevy of ideas to jump start your 4th of July celebration planning! Links to everyone’s posts can be found near the bottom of this post. No matter how you arrived here today, whether you are one of my regular readers, you hopped over after visiting Carol (her 4th of July inspired patio vignette is so cute!) at Blue Sky at Home , or you found me on Google, I am so glad you are here! My name is Kimberly and I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between! Especially rusty and chippy items!
Flags, Flowers & Finials for the 4th!
It is so easy to decorate for the summer holidays in the United States ! All you really need is an assortment of American flags on wooden sticks, some flowers, a few finials (spindles) and a little bit of thyme and BOOM… you’re ready to celebrate!
If you are like me and are running a bit behind in your holiday decorating, I found two different sizes of American flags on Amazon. Of course, there are more sizes available but I find the 4 x 6 and the 8 x 12 inch ones work great for your interior decorating! They will even work outside!
Once you have your two sizes of American flags , you are ready to start! I basically run around the house and find places to stick the flags and I am done!
Trio of Flags
These 6 inch flags in the little stand are one of my favorite things. The plastic holder for the flags comes in a few different options. I like the one with that holds three flags the best.
They can be tucked into displays:
or nestled in the center of a round dough bowl:

Flags & Flowers
I have several silk arrangements around the house. I simply added three flags to the one below:
and moved it to a different location and it looks ready for the 4th, don’t you think?
The arrangement in the antique basket is accented with an American flag. The flag not only adds a festive 4th of July touch, it also adds some height to the arrangement, making the vignette stand out. The S on the table is from an old sign. The patriotic inspired sign also adds additional interest to this corner of the gathering room.
The flags can also be added to potted plants. This display is super easy to put together! If you are using this as a centerpiece for your holiday celebration, once the celebration is over, you could send the plants home with your guests or pot them up in larger containers for yourself !
Red, White & Bloom!
A chalk painted wicker basket looks very festive filled with seasonal plants.
Adding a flag is a very simple update for a patio pot!
A flag print weather proof bow adds a bit of sparkle as well!
Easy Tablescape for the 4th of July
With the Summer holidays rapidly approaching, I went thru my stash of material. I found this piece of oil cloth with an American flag motif. It will make a great base for my centerpiece for the lanai dining table.
Since it is oil cloth, it is easy to clean in case something gets spilled on it. It can be wiped off with a spritz of spray cleaner and dried with a towel.
To add a touch of whimsy to the centerpiece, I decided to add pinwheels to two of the spindles. I love how versatile these spindles are! I have used them several times since finding them tucked in a box in the bottom of the closet .
The glass rectangle shaped plates are part of a vintage snack set. The set includes the plate and a small glass punch cup. Instead of using the small punch cup, I decided to use the small plastic hats . When it is thyme to eat, I will line the hats with plastic wrap and add pasta salad.
Another Easy Tablescape for the 4th of July
To add a floral touch to the holiday celebration, I also designed a tablescape with this piece of vintage denim blue fabric with embroidered flowers.
This time, the spindles (or finials) are topped with the small wooden American flags. A barnwood “love” sign is added to the display. The sign was actually a Valentine’s Day sign that I found in the sale section after Valentine’s Day. Since “Love” is a big part of my decorating theme this year , I have been using it quite a bit.
Showing Our Love For Our Country
To end our day of 4th of July Celebrations, we will probably fire up the grill and cook something on the Big Green Egg. I can reuse part of the decorations and add a few more touches! I even have extra hats! I think for dessert we will have ice cream served in the little hats!
