Are you looking for a quick way to disguise an unsightly area in a bedroom? A folding screen might be the answer!

Guest Room Refresh

Guest Bedroom - Dec 2020 Before

Sadly, our quest room is often the repository for all of the extra stuff!  I did manage to clear off the bed and keep it looking like the picture below for several weeks over the holidays.   That initial reorganization process was outlined in this post:

Guest Bedroom Florida House Dec 2020

It wasn’t long until the bed was covered up again.  Ugh!  I decided I really needed to tackle it again if we were ever going to have room for guests!

How to “Build” A Closet

makeshift closet using a folding screen

One of my blogging friends, Julie at http://my wee abode.com  wrote a post about using a room divider to “build” a closet in any room.  I thought it might be just what I needed.  She used a 4-panel screen.   I miss measured and only ordered a three-panel screen.  It did hide most of the “stuff”, but a 4th panel would have been better!

Basically, behind the screen are all my totes of Fall & Christmas decor plus several totes full of family photo albums and other memorabilia.  Hopefully this summer, I can tackle getting the photos and other family mementos organized.

There Really is a Bed in There

This thyme I am determined to keep the bed from becoming a catch all space!  So far it is working!  I do have more stuff stored under the bed!

To brighten up the corner by the bed, I added this cute ceramic basket and polish pottery flowers.  I love the touch of whimsy they add to the corner!  When no one is using the guest room, I can bring the basket and the flowers out to the living room and add their special touch to a Spring display!  See the details here: Quick Cottage Tray Makeover

Hearts & flowers help spread the love vignette

At the foot of the bed, I placed an old wooden bench.  I used a gentle wood cleaner on it to clean it.  All the steps are outlined in this post if you are interested in learning more about the process.

The vintage laundry basket belonged to my paternal grandmother.  It is beginning to show a bit of wear.  The handles need to be reinforced.  I am currently using it to store some long gathering baskets as well as a summer blanket.

This is very similar to the one I purchased except it does have 4 panels!

This is the cleaner I used on my wooden bench.  Just be sure to test it in an inconspicuous area first to be sure it won’t damage your wooden furniture.

These are a different color than the ones I have but they are still super cute!

Scented geraniums were the spark that started it all — from herb shows to teaching classes to rediscovering them here in Florida. It feels like coming full circle. 🌿💗

Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Ex Seventeen years ago today, I volunteered on the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition build in Philo, Illinois — a day that still feels as vivid as ever.

From prepping pots at the shop to seeing the landscaping come together, to standing off to the side during the reveal… it was one of those rare experiences where community, generosity, and purpose all collide in the best possible way.

There’s a photo in here of me with Will and Debbie — two wonderful people who volunteered alongside me that day. Will always wore those sunglasses; I still can’t see the sunglasses emoji without thinking of him. Both have since passed, and that picture has become a little treasure from a day we shared together.

I added a few newly rediscovered photos to my blog post this year, and it reminded me how meaningful it was to be part of something hopeful and lasting.

I pulled together this simple patriotic vignette with vintage touches, soft blues, and a few gentle pops of red. It’s amazing how a little fabric, a postcard, and a favorite finial can turn into something sweet for summer.

If you love soft Americana style, this one’s for you. ❤️🤍💙
