Have an out of season tray? Let me show you how to refresh a cottage style tray in less than 45 minutes! Simply follow these easy steps!
Shortly after the Christmas holidays, I found this tray in the clearance section of a local department store. It was marked down to less than $10.00. I loved the overall look of the tray. The cottage style look was perfect for my decor but the design on the bottom limited the tray to the winter season.
Since I am bit challanged on storage space, I am trying to limit the amount of things I can only use for part of the year. It didn’t take me too long to realize that yes, I could cover that up without too much difficulty! I quickly purchased the tray before some other crafty person could grab it!

Let’s Refresh a Cottage Style Tray
Let me share my simple steps for makeovering a cottage style tray!
I didn’t want to completely remove the Holiday message so I decided to make an insert that would cover the bottom of the tray. I happened to have some leftover foam board from another project that I thought would work perfectly. You can find that project here: How To Display A Child’s Vintage Garment
After gathering the piece of foam board, a box cutter and some tape, I was ready to go to work. Flipping the tray over, I measured the back of the tray in order to cut a piece of foam board to fit the area.
I cut the foam board a little smaller than the actual inside so that I would have a little wiggle room in case I wanted to cover the foam board insert.
Once I was sure the foam board insert would fit nicely inside the tray, I was ready for the next step.
I just happened to have a piece of yellow fabric wrap that was left over from some flowers we had purchased for my Great Aunt. My husband had thrown the wrap away but I quickly rescued it from the trash can! I knew it would come in handy one day!
I simply folded the yellow fabric and wrapped it around the insert. Then I placed the insert back into the tray! It will be easy to change the color of the fabric to coordinate with the items I display in the tray!

I am pleased with how my project turned out. The whole project including decorating the tray took less than 45 minutes. I did have the elements for the tray display already gathered together. If you need to gather your elements, it may take a little longer than 45 minutes.
The cottage style of the tray and the white color make it a very versatile piece! I am already planning a display for Easter!
