A Quick Potting Bench Makeover

Need a way to make working on your gardening projects a little easier? Here is an idea on how to repurpose a table into a potting bench!

Metal top work table - Before

Are you wondering how to repurpose a table into a potting bench? Here is how I did it.  This table was a “work” table in my flower shop for years!  Then I had it at the farm for a year or so.  I decided to bring it to Florida when I came back from Illinois in March, 2021.  I thought I could use it in the garage or somewhere.  You can never have too many tables!

As the weather was getting nicer and the lanai was closer to being finished, I realized I needed a potting bench or potting table.  Of course, as soon as I decided I needed one, I had to have it right then.  I looked online but couldn’t find anything with quick shipping that I thought would work.  Then I remembered this table!

I turned this old table into a potting bench with just a few simple steps!

Metal top table - After cleaning

The first step was to give it a good cleaning.  I don’t think the top had been washed off in all the time I had had it!  It was so dirty!  I can’t believe I put it in my van and drove it to Florida and didn’t notice how icky it was!

Once I scrubbed the top off and wiped down the legs, it was ready for a new coat of spray paint.

I used a couple of different shades of silver spray paint to give the top new life.  For the final coat, I used a color called Chrome.  It made it very shiny!

Because the legs are wood, I put hard rubber protectors underneath them in hopes of keeping them as dry as possible.  I would like to add some sort of shelf on the top of the table, but I haven’t found anything that would work yet.
