Finally Found the Bed….

Do you have that one room in your house that just seems to attract everything that doesn’t seem to have a home? Mine is the guest room!

I often find myself walking around the house saying “Pot: Kettle”, “Apple: Tree” and my favorite: “People who live in glass lanais shouldn’t throw stones.”   In case you think I have finally lost it, you are probably right!  I am really referring to how much I am like my Mother in regard to keeping “stuff”.  I don’t keep quite as much as she did, but I do have a lot of stuff.

What is really amazing is the amount of stuff that was left after downsizing when we moved from Illinois.  That was a multistage process that finally wrapped up almost a year ago.  You can read about the downsizing process here:

Our quest bedroom room seems to always be the place where I stack everything that I can’t find another place for.  The totes have out of season home decor and family pictures.   I am still working on finding efficient ways to store everything!

Lavender & Moss Green

There really is a bed under all that mess. The last couple of days the chaos has really been getting to me.  This morning, I had had enough.  I managed to get the bed cleaned off and decorated a couple of areas.

The bed is a full-size bed.  The frame belonged to my Great Grandmother, my Mom’s Grandmother.  My Mom always called it the Pineapple bed.  I had to bring it to Florida since it had pineapple finials!

I have plans to put something on the wall above the head of the bed, but I am waiting until we are done with the pool addition.  This part of the house is really close to where they will be working, and I don’t want anything to fall off the walls if there is a lot of vibration from their machinery.  If you are curious about how we chose a pool company, you can read about it here:

One Possibility for Something to Go over the Bed

This amazing piece of gingerbread was one of the ones my helpers found in the barn this past summer. I do have the missing spindle and plan to glue it back in.  The gingerbread is still in Illinois.  I am hoping it will fit in my van the next time I go back.  If you are interested in knowing what else we found in the barn, you can read about it here:

Pansies

The China cabinet belonged to the same Great Grandmother as the pineapple bed.  We ended up putting the China cabinet in the guest bedroom when I brought a big cabinet back from Illinois.  The China cabinet is currently displaying items with a floral theme.  The clover dishes on the bottom are the only remaining pieces from my Mom’s everyday dishes from when she was first married.

The purple glass vase belonged to my paternal grandparents.  They received it for a wedding gift.  It was hand blown.  It is at least 112 years old.

Across from the foot of the bed is this chest of drawers.  The framed poster is from when my house in Cincinnati was on a house tour.  I will probably hang it in my office at some point.

The “Spread the Love ” print is sitting on a green metal filing cabinet that belonged to my parents.  It is full of paperwork and should probably be in the office.  There really isn’t room in the office for it right now without tearing up the whole office.  I think I will tackle that another day!

Let’s see how long the bed stays like this!  updated on Jan 5, 2021.  It stayed this way for 3 1/2 weeks until I started packing up the Christmas decor and had to cover up the bed again!
