Whimsical Spring Sugar Mold Decor: Easy Floral Styling Ideas

Looking for a quick & easy way to decorate your sugar mold for Spring?  Here is an idea for whimsical Spring sugar mold decor!

Sugar molds have always been one of my favorite ways to add a touch of rustic charm to seasonal decorating. For spring, I love filling them with soft, whimsical florals that bring a little farmhouse nostalgia into my Florida home. This simple arrangement comes together in minutes and adds the sweetest pop of color to any table, shelf, or vignette — a gentle reminder that home is always better when it’s Styled with Heart.

Let me show you how to quickly decorate a sugar mold for Spring with just a touch of whimsy!

Whimsical Spring Sugar Mold Decor

Before we get started!

You may be wondering just what a sugar mold is. Sugar used to be sold to consumers in cone shapes.  This was before granulated sugar came on the market.  A sugar mold was used to form the sugar into the cone shapes.

Now they are used as fun, home decor pieces. Sugar molds come in all different sizes.  I have two 6-hole ones (one white, one natural), a 3 hole one and one that just has one hole.

All of my sugar molds are reproduction pieces.  While the sugar mold will stand on its own, a wrought iron stand can be a useful accent to the piece. It gives the sugar mold a little more height and adds stability in case the final creation is top heavy.

Let’s Get Started!

To design this sugar mold, you will need a few items.  I had most of these items on hand.  They can be purchases at your local craft store or from Amazon. Here is what I suggest –

  • White Berry Picks
  • Sugar mold 6 hole – Brown
  • Small terra cotta pots
  • foam balls or ovals
  • wooden floral picks

An adorable Spring idea for your sugar mold is to use moss balls for “dirt” or “soil” and plant wood or resin flowers in the sugar mold.

To design this sugar mold centerpiece, I started with a 6 hole white sugar mold.

Next, I selected a few moss balls.   These moss balls are simply styrofoam covered with a thin layer of artificial moss.

I used a hacksaw blade to cut them to fit into the holes of the sugar mold.   You could also use a sharp knife to cut them.  Take caution when cutting them so that you don’t accidently cut yourself!

Once the moss ball is cut and placed in the hole of the sugar mold, you are ready to “plant” your wooden flowers!

I used a silk flower garland and cut it apart to make the little tussie mussies for the sugar mold.

Blue hydrangea silk garland

This blue hydrangea garland was approximately 4 foot long.  It was easy take it apart.  The cream-colored berries are a nice addition to the sugar mold and blend well with the wooden hearts and the sugar mold.

To cut the garland apart, I used wire snips.

After the garland was taken apart, I had all these different stems to work with.

Because the stems are individually wired, I can twist the stems around a pen to make whimsical curlicues to add interest and movement to the arrangement.

This idea was one I used for Summer but it would also work for Spring! I am not sure this one should even count since it was so easy to do.  What is really neat about this one is that I made the “flower” out of an old pillow case!

I propped a sign on top of the white sugar mold and used it as a backdrop for a garden of “planted” tulips.

Other Ways to Use Your Sugar Mold

The sugar mold can be used in your office to hold pens, pencils, scissors, etc.  Makeup brushes could be stored in a sugar mold in your bathroom.  In the kitchen, you could use the sugar mold to hold silverware or utensils.

My sugar mold collection just might be giving my dough bowl collection some serious competition!

If you create your own spring sugar mold arrangement, I’d truly love to see how you style it. Every home tells its story a little differently, and your ideas always inspire me.
