Can you believe the 4th of July is right around the corner?  I know that I am having a hard time accepting how quickly the year is passing!

Have you made your plans for celebrating the 4th of July this year?  I am not sure what exactly we will be doing but I have the house all decked out in Red, White & Blue! You can see the whole tour here: Celebrate the Spirit of Independence Day

A Look Back At 4th of July Celebrations Past

My 4th of July preparations always include some thyme thinking about 4th of July celebration memories that involved my parents.  One of my favorites is when my Mom was honored in parade for all her community activities.  She was active in so many organizations.  She really loved her country!

Three Cheers for the Red, White & Blue

Another memory involves the first time I made this Red, White & Blue Salad!  I made it for a 4th of July cookout we were having with my parents and another family friend.  My first try was a little crooked, but it was still very delicious!

And of course, the many parades I marched in twirling my baton!

Ok, that is enough of the memories, let’s get to decorating!

The Marble Topped Chest

Simply moving a few pieces of furniture around can give your home a new look! By moving this chest to our dining room, I gained access to some additional storage options as well!

Before-

Oak framed mirror on top of marble topped chest

The marble topped chest of drawers was my paternal grandfather’s.  It is a great place to store matches and candles in case of a power outage.  I also store extra batteries for the battery operated candles.  The bottom area offers a place to store candle holders and some vintage glasses that belonged to my grandmother.

This is obviously an old picture of the chest of drawers.  The corner cabinet that you can see reflected in the mirror was re-painted and now looks like this:

The oak framed mirror leaning on top of the chest was something my Mother found at an antique store in Rabbit Hash, KY many years ago.  Where is Rabbit Hash you ask?  It is a small town along the banks of the Ohio River. My parents and I as well as some girls from the office I worked at at the time took a trip to Rabbit Hash on year over the Labor Day holiday.  To learn more about Rabbit Hash and our day trip, please see The Story Behind the Mirror

After-

As part of my reorganization process, I decided to move the marble topped chest to our dining area.  It made a lot of sense to move it for a variety of reasons.  The table that was there is now in the entryway waiting to be repainted.
