Let your entryway reflect your interests & personality! Let me show you how I use flower pots, plants & garden tools in my decor!
Welcome to Springthyme in Florida!
Today I am sharing how I quickly refreshed the entryway for Spring. Using garden related items including plants, garden tools & flower pots, I am able to add some whimsy to the entryway.
Won’t you join me while I refresh the entryway for Spring?
Garden Style Decorating Ideas for the Entryway
Before:
The first step is to remove everything in order to sweep the concrete floor.
Once the floor is swept, I add the display pieces back into the area. The baker’s rack has three shelves. I have two metal tables for the left side of the entryway. I also re-used the pineapple stepping stone that says “Welcome”. The iron lantern will be filled with flower pot saucers and moved to a different area of the house.
I sometimes refer to these display pieces as the “bones” of the room or area.
In all honesty, picking my theme and the decor items is probably the first step but we will call it step 3 . I love the theme “Gardening is the Key to My Heart”. I have used this theme before. It really speaks to me and does reflect a large part of who I am. In case you are just starting to follow my journey, I like to say I write about everything from flowers (a former florist) to flour ( a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between!
To decorate the entryway for Spring, I first shopped my house. I didn’t have to purchase any new decor items to complete this project. I was able to find everything I needed by looking around my home! The only exception was, I did order some new plants. Some are for the lanai and some are going to be used in this Spring refresh. To reflect my theme, I will incorporate a few plants, garden tools, keys and a heart shaped topiary (or two!)
I found these keys when I was cleaning out the farmhouse house as part of the downsizing/moving process.
The plant below is Angel Vine. It is one of my absolute favorite plants! I used it a lot when I had my flower shop. It was my signature plant. The small green leaves grow on sturdy thin almost wire like stems. It grows really well here in Florida. This plant is accented with a rustic looking wire heart. The black ashtray is actually from the Mark 2100 hotel in Fort Lauderdale FL where my Mom used to vacation every February. I am sure the hotel itself doesn’t exist anymore but the ashtray is a great memento.
Terra cotta flower pots are one of my many weaknesses. I think I brought at least 7 boxes of flower pots with me when I came back from one of my many trips to Illinois when I was trying to complete the moving process.
I like to use this coffee mug rack to hold some of the smaller flower pots. It reminds me of a French bottle drying rack but is a lot smaller and considerably less expensive!
To complete the top shelf of Springthyme gardening inspired baker’s rack, I added a couple of terra cotta pots and two rustic wire daisies to the wall pocket made out of old barn tin.
The rustic daisies were originally topiaries that we used for my Mom’s birthday party several years ago. After the plants died, I kept the topiary form.
Now we are ready to turn our attention to the other side of the entryway. I like keep a metal cart in this area but it was looking a little sad. The screen does allow a little bit of water to get in if the rain is coming from a certain direction. I love this cart but it is thyme to give it a new coat of paint. I wheeled it into the garage until I can get around to painting it. After it is repainted, I think I will put it out on the lanai.
In place of the cart, I brought these two tables in . They fit perfectly. I wanted to be sure there was still enough room for people to get into the entryway without having to stand sideways! The tables are made of metal and have wooden tops.
Through the screen , you can see almost all of the old grindstone that I brought back from Illinois. Like so many things, it belonged to my Mom. I love the patina of the old iron stand it sits on .
I love using garden antiques in my landscape. If you are interested in learning more about how I have incorporated them in to my garden, there is a lot of information here: How To Decorate with Antique Garden Tools & Accessories
Now the entryway is a seasonal representation of my personality and my decorating style, which I call “Kim Style”.
If only the entryway was a bit wider, I would put these chairs in there!

I love terracotta pots to Kimberly. This looks great.
I look for Angle vine and haven’t found it yet. I’d love to make a topiary with it!
