Springthyme Garden Style Entryway

February 7, 2026 by Kimberly Snyder 5 Comments

Spread the love

A gentle, garden‑inspired Spring entryway refresh using plants, terra cotta pots, vintage tools, and meaningful pieces to create a warm, welcoming porch.

A welcoming blend of whimsy, memory, and “Kim Style”

Let your entryway reflect your interests and personality — especially when that entryway happens to be a small enclosed porch. This little space is the first hello to your home, and it deserves to feel warm, personal, and joyfully seasonal.

Welcome to Springthyme in Florida.

Today I’m sharing how I refreshed our screened‑porch entryway for Spring using the things that make me happiest: flower pots, plants, garden tools, and meaningful pieces collected over the years. With just a little rearranging and a few new plants, this space now feels like a cheerful garden welcome.

Won’t you join me while I refresh the entryway for Spring?

Garden Style Decorating Ideas for the Small Porch

Here is what I started with:

Narrow entryway with garden style decorations - before getting refreshed

On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.  By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects!  Thank you!

Step 1: Clear the Space & Start Fresh

Before anything else, I removed every piece from the porch and swept the concrete floor. A clean slate always makes the refresh feel easier and more intentional.

Once the floor was ready, I brought back the “bones” of the space — the pieces that stay season after season:

  • My three‑shelf baker’s rack
  • Two metal tables with wooden tops
  • The pineapple “Welcome” stepping stone
  • A few favorite garden antiques

These foundational pieces give me structure to build on, no matter what theme I’m decorating with.

Step 2: Choose a Theme That Reflects You

If I’m honest, choosing the theme is always my real first step. This Spring, I returned to one of my favorites:

“Gardening is the Key to My Heart.”

It’s a theme that feels deeply personal — a nod to my years as a florist, my love of plants, and the way gardening has always been woven into my life story. I like to say I write about everything from flowers (a former florist) to flour (a former pizzeria owner), and many things in between.

To bring this theme to life, I incorporated:

  • Keys found while cleaning out the farmhouse
  • Heart‑shaped topiaries
  • Garden tools
  • Terra cotta pots
  • Fresh plants

Everything came from shopping my home, except for a few new plants I ordered for Spring.

Step 3: Style the Baker’s Rack

The baker’s rack is the heart of this entryway, and it’s where the theme really shines.

Angel Vine + Heart Topiary

Angel Vine has always been my signature plant — I used it constantly in my flower shop. Its wiry stems and tiny leaves feel delicate yet strong, and it grows beautifully here in Florida. I placed it in a rustic container and accented it with a wire heart.

Nearby sits a small black ashtray from the old Mark 2100 hotel in Fort Lauderdale — a sentimental piece from my mom’s February vacations. I love including items that carry memory and story.

Terra Cotta Pots Everywhere

Terra cotta is one of my weaknesses. I brought at least seven boxes of pots with me from Illinois during the moving process, and I use them constantly in my décor.

A favorite trick: I use a small coffee‑mug rack to display tiny pots. It reminds me of a French bottle‑drying rack — charming, practical, and full of character.

Rustic Daisies & Barn Tin

To finish the top shelf, I tucked two rustic wire daisies into a wall pocket made from old barn tin. These daisies were once topiary forms used for my mom’s birthday party. After the plants faded, I kept the forms — and I’m so glad I did.

Step 4: Refresh the Opposite Side of the Entryway

I usually keep a metal cart on the left side, but it was looking tired and had taken on a bit of water through the screen. It’s now waiting in the garage for a fresh coat of paint — and once it’s revived, it may move to the lanai.

In its place, I brought in two metal‑and‑wood tables that fit perfectly without crowding the walkway. I always want guests to be able to enter without turning sideways.

Through the screen, you can see the old grindstone I brought back from Illinois — another piece that belonged to my mom. The patina on the iron stand is perfection.

If you love garden antiques as much as I do, I have a full post on how I use them in my landscape: How to Decorate with Antique Garden Tools & Accessories

Step 5: Let the Space Tell Your Story

Now the entryway feels like a seasonal expression of my personality — what I lovingly call “Kim Style.”

It’s garden‑inspired, memory‑filled, a little whimsical, and full of pieces that make me smile.

If only the entryway was a bit wider, I’d tuck a pair of chairs in here too.

I love terracotta pots to Kimberly. This looks great.

I look for Angle vine and haven’t found it yet. I’d love to make a topiary with it!
