Spring Home Tour – Brocante Style

March 7, 2024 by Kimberly Snyder 24 Comments

Spread the love

Incorporating Brocante Style into your Spring decor is as simple as using vintage finds in a creative way. Let me show you how!

As the Spring season begins to bloom, it’s the perfect time to infuse your home with touches of vintage charm and create a space that exudes warmth, charm and character. Today, I am sharing five of my favorite Brocante Style decorating ideas and how I use them in my home.

Brocante Style is about finding beauty in imperfections, celebrating the patina of age, and curating a space that tells a story. From incorporating unique vintage finds to blending natural elements with delicate pastel hues, these spring decorating ideas can bring a touch of whimsy and elegance to your home.

Whether you’re an avid collector or just starting to explore the world of vintage decor, I hope these ideas will inspire you to create a space that showcases your personal style while embracing the allure of the past.

On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.  By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects!  Thank you!

Before we really get started:

As a special treat this week, I am joining a group of  bloggers for a Spring Home Tour!  Each day this week, 5 bloggers will be showcased.  The links to today’s participants can be found near the bottom of this post!  A big Thank you to Marty from A Stroll Thru Life for organizing this Spring Home Tour!

No matter how you arrived here today, whether you are one of my regular readers, you found me via Google, or you “hopped” over from Jodi’s blog at Lyndale Drive , I am so glad you are here!  My name is Kimberly and I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between!  Especially rusty and chippy items!

I love to share all the things I have learned over the years.  Sometimes I tell stories about my life.  Other times, I will share a craft, a decorating tip or a recipe. I hope you enjoy your thyme here today and learn at least one thing during your visit!

Let’s Get Started!

Spring Decor Brocante Style

Generally speaking,  the definitions of  Brocante include the terms vintage or second hand items that are sold at a  flea market or similar venue.  It is a French term that can mean regularly held events such as flea markets.  One who sells antique and vintage goods are called brocanteurs in France.  I guess you could call me a former brocanteur since I used to set up at flea markets, antique shows and hold estate sales!

Herb Day photo shoot

The term , Brocante, may have originated from the Dutch word brok, meaning a piece or fragment.  This makes sense as collectors can find various pieces and things to either repurpose or to use as originally intended.  The phrase “bric-à-brac” used to describe decorative trinkets comes from this idea of gathering bits and pieces!

Anyone who loves vintage, second hand or repurposed items is interested in Brocante Style!

Brocante ; What in the World is Brocante?

The beauty of Brocante Style decor lies in the individual pieces, each with its own story and history.  Don’t be afraid to mix and match different textures and materials to create a visually rich and textured display. By adding a brocante-inspired touch to your Spring decor, you can create a truly unique decorating style!

Brocante Style decor is environmentally friendly. By repurposing and upcycling old items (like the old galvanized hog feeder in the photo below), you are contributing to sustainable living and reducing waste. It’s a great way to add character to your home while also being mindful of the environment.

Spring Decorating Ideas with a Brocante Touch

Let’s explore five spring decorating ideas that can help you infuse your home with vintage charm.

Infusing Vintage Charm with Antique Furniture and Accessories

One of the key elements of Brocante decor is the use of antique furniture and accessories. Incorporating vintage pieces into your home adds a sense of history and character. Look for items with interesting details, such as carved wood

or decorative metalwork

to create a focal point in your space.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match different eras and styles.   Display a collection of vintage pottery in a cottage style bookcase. The juxtaposition of old and new creates an interesting and visually appealing aesthetic.

Using Floral Patterns and Pastel Colors to Create a Romantic Atmosphere

Spring is the perfect time to embrace floral patterns and pastel colors in your home decor. Incorporating these elements will create a romantic and whimsical atmosphere that is reminiscent of a blooming garden.

One way to infuse a touch of femininity and charm into your Brocante-inspired spring decor is by incorporating delicate floral patterns. Whether it’s through floral wallpaper, throw pillows, curtains, or bedding, these subtle patterns can add a soft and romantic feel to your space.

Opt for vintage floral designs with muted tones to seamlessly blend with your existing decor. These patterns can bring a sense of nostalgia and whimsy to your home, evoking a sense of springtime all year round.

Incorporating Rustic Elements Such as Distressed Wood, Metal Accents & Baskets

To achieve the rustic elegance of Brocante, it’s important to incorporate rustic elements into your home decor. Distressed wood and metal accents add a sense of charm and authenticity to your space.

Consider adding a reclaimed wood dining table to your dining room.   Mr Farmhouse doesn’t think these chairs really work with the table but for now, we will use them!

or a vintage lighting fixture to your living space.  I haven’t found the perfect spot for this ceiling light.  It used to hang in my home in Cincinnati.  When I moved back to Illinois, I had my Dad take it down so I could bring it with me.  Hopefully, someday, I will find a spot to hang it!

Use antique wooden crates as storage for various items.

Use vintage wicker baskets as plant holders in your living room to add a touch of rustic charm.

Create a seasonal Easter display using an antique presentation basket and vintage inspired holiday items.

Brocante Style elements can also be used outdoors in your garden to add interest and character.  These metal urns originally belonged to my paternal Grandmother.  They are one of my favorite accent pieces!

Using old wooden boxes, metal items such as old garden tools and old books is a great way to add personality and whimsy to your home and garden.

Adding Unique Vintage Finds to Create Focal Points in Your Home

One of the joys of Brocante Style decorating is the thrill of the hunt for unique vintage finds. These treasures can be used as focal points in your home, adding a sense of intrigue and personality to your space.

I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe God puts certain people in your path for a reason. An example of this occurred on Tuesday. It was colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy day. I was really nervous about how it would all work since it was my first time since I had my cancer surgery.

The nurse that was taking care of me in the pre op area turned out to be the same nurse who had prayed for me last year. My husband was in the parking lot of the medical center speaking with his friend who happened to work at the center with this particular nurse. I was very sick at the time and they prayed for my healing. It was great to be able to thank her in person and let her see that the prayers had been answered. ❤️

Then the anesthesiologist came in and told me about his cousin who had also been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer about a year ago. He mentioned some of the treatments his cousin had had and how important a positive attitude is. I was touched that he took the time to tell me about his cousin’s experience.

We had arranged in advance to have my husband’s friend as the nurse anesthesist. He was able to pray with us as well as reassure us about the procedure.

The procedure went well. The three polyps that the surgeon removed were sent to pathology. The report is already back and there no evidence of cancer. Prayers were answered again❤️
