Spread Love: Valentine’s Day Decor Ideas
Valentine’s Day has a way of sneaking up on us, doesn’t it? If you’re feeling the same way, you’re in good company. I pulled together this sweet little display using things I already had around the house—proof that you can create something festive and meaningful without a single trip to the store.
This is a quick, simple Valentine’s Day idea you can put together today, using whatever you already love and live with.

Shop Your Home for a Theme
I always start the display building process by walking through the house and letting something spark the idea. This time, it was a sign I bought back when I was preparing the Illinois farmhouse for the market, paired with a yellow‑and‑white ceramic basket and a few Polish pottery stems I had tucked away for spring.

Then I spotted a box of old Christmas cards—the sweet snowman holding a garland of hearts felt like a little nudge. A reminder that love shows up in unexpected places, even in a box of saved cards from years ago. The way the snowman is holding the garland of hearts looks like he is “Spreading Love”, doesn’t it?

That became the theme: Spread the Love.
Choose a Simple Color Palette
For a last‑minute display, keeping the palette tight makes everything feel intentional. I stayed with classic Valentine’s Day colors—pink, red, and white—with a touch of green pulled from the snowman box.
If you’re styling your own version, choose two or three colors and let them guide you.
Add Hearts (Lots of Them)
Hearts instantly say Valentine’s Day, and they’re easy to sprinkle into any vignette.
- Rattan heart bowl fillers
- A wooden heart garland
- A couple of metal heart boxes I found years ago in Illinois
- A tiny wooden heart bowl with “herbs” painted on it—a little nod to where my creative journey began
Mixing textures keeps everything from feeling flat, especially when you’re working with a small color palette.

Bring in Something Living
A pot of heart‑shaped hoyas was too perfect to pass up. They’re low‑maintenance and add a sweet, fresh touch to the display. If you don’t have hoyas, a small plant, a sprig of greenery, or even a few clipped stems from the yard will bring life to the vignette.

Anchor the Display with a Favorite Piece
You know I love a dough bowl. This white reproduction bowl adds height and structure, and the little “wings” on the sides make me smile every time.
To lift the items inside, I used a strip of webbing I cut from a non‑skid rug pad—one of those “keeper” moments that proves my husband may be right about me saving too much… but it always comes in handy!
Once the base was in place, I layered in the metal boxes, tucked in the rattan hearts, and propped the wooden garland in front.

Add a Touch of Architectural Salvage
A few small salvage pieces—skeleton keys, gingerbread trim, and two small pillars—give the whole display a sense of history. The old floor grate in the background adds texture without overwhelming the softer Valentine elements.

One Last Look
This little Valentine’s Day vignette came together in minutes, using things I already had and a few sentimental pieces that carry stories of the Illinois farmhouse and the journey to Florida.
If you’re decorating today, keep it simple. Shop your home, gather what speaks to you, and let the love you already have on hand shine.

I hope I have sparked your creativity! Happy Valentine’s Day, friends.
