Simple Summer Hand Tied Bouquet

July 23, 2025 by Kimberly Snyder 8 Comments

Spread the love

A simple hand tied bouquet of faux flowers could be just the solution you are looking for to quickly decorate your dough bowl for summer!

A bouquet of bright yellow black eyed susan flowers looks so summery, doesn’t it? Let me show you how I made this simple Summer hand tied bouquet.

While it looks nice in this white enamelware jug, I think it would look even better in my oval dough bowl!

Oval Wooden Dough Bowl

I believe that my oval dough bowl is a reproduction but there are still many antique ones available.  Dough bowls used to be used when making bread.  The bowl was a great place for the bread to rise, the wood helped retain the heat which in turn helped the dough rise.  They are also sometimes referred to as trenchers. Mine is 20 inches long and oval.  I also have a hand hewn one that is round.  I like the oval shape of this one for use on my  coffee table in our gathering room.

Preparing the Simple Summer Hand Tied Bouquet

Black eyed susans on a wooden tray

The stems are individually wired so they are easy to work with and “fluff” to make the stems appear more natural looking.  After fluffing the first stem,  I added a stem of yellow flowers to the back of the stem.  Then I added a second stem of brown eyed susans and two stems of wispy natural colored stems.  I used rubber bands to tied the stems together.

Handle Treatment

Oasis Muslin Ribbon ready to wrap stems

To give the stems a more finished appearance, I decided to use Oasis Raw Muslin Ribbon. The exact ribbon I used doesn’t seem to be available but this is a fairly close substitute :cotton ribbon

I cut a length of the ribbon and then tied it at the top of the stems.

I then wrapped the ribbon around the stems and secured it with a pearl headed pin.  I only used one pin but you could use more if you want.

Ready to Style the Dough Bowl

To add extra texture, I laid a piece of off white mesh fabric in the bowl and then placed the bouquet on top of the mesh fabric.  The piece of mesh is actually a strip I cut off of a rug pad.

Storage Tip!

If you are looking for ideas on how to store all your silk flowers, here is what I do! By simply adding a shoe holder to the back of your door, you can quickly organize your silk flowers! There are many options available.  This one is bigger than the one I have! I may need to upgrade mine!   Over the door shoe organizer
