Let’s Add a Pair of Vintage Ball Jars
I honestly thought I had sold most of the mason jars during the downsizing process. I am so glad that I didn’t! I love the blue color of these vintage mason jars. I won’t say exactly how many ultimately found their way to Florida since Mr Farmhouse might be reading this but it was more than a few!
Supplies to make 2 centerpieces:
In order to turn this simple mason jar into a pretty centerpiece, you will need the following things.
- 2 vintage Ball jars. If you don’t the blue colored ones, you can use the clear Mason jar or even an empty glass jar. Canning jars can often be found at estate sales, garage sales, antique stores or thrift shops.
- 2 sets of battery operated fairy lights.
- enough faux sunflowers to fill the jars. I cut this sunflower bush apart to make the two Ball Jar arrangements
- faux fruit. I used the fruit slices out of this package of faux fruit in the Mason Jar arrangements
Step 1
I filled the jar with the battery operated fairy lights. I turned the lights on while I put the centerpiece together so that I could see how the lights were shining through the pieces of fruit. The lights I used are turned off by using the little blue button on the white piece.
After you get the lights in the jar, simply drop in the slices of faux fruit.
I used ribbon that had a sunflower print. If you prefer a simpler look, you could use raffia or twine. Here is the link for the ribbon I used. There are many beautiful ribbon available online or in your local fabric store as well.
Aren’t the denim placemats so cute? I found them on Amazon! Here is the link!
Additional Info
Since I am not using water in this jar centerpiece, the fact that the fairy lights are waterproof isn’t really important. I purchased the ones that were waterproof knowing that I might want to use them in a different vase arrangement that did have water.
I used faux fruit but you could use real fruit. If you do use real fruit, please add water to the mason jar to help keep the fruit fresh thru your event.
The battery lights come with a little tab that needs to be removed before the lights will light up. I am notorious for forgetting to pull that tab off and then wondering why my lights won’t turn on!
Instead of faux fruit slices, you could fill the jar with marbles, ornaments or even shells. The sunflowers could be replaced with any other faux flower. Fresh flowers could also be used. If you decide to use fresh flowers, please add water to the jar!
Save this for later!
