Looking for a resilient annual plant? Something airy that will accent other plants? Proven Winners Diamond Frost is one of my absolute favorites!
Proven Winners Diamond Collection
You might be wondering why I am writing about an annual plant when it is November and in many parts of the country, the growing season is over. Now that I live in the tropics (sorry Northern friends but I just love to write that,) many annuals can be grown all year. In fact, some annuals, like geraniums, actually do better in the Fall and Winter in the southern growing zones. I am relearning how to garden now that I am in a different growing zone.
The good news is that you don’t have to live in the Tropics in order to enjoy this pretty annual plant.
Diamond Frost or is it Really Diamond Snow?
Proven Winners actually has three euphorbias in their Diamond Collection: Frost, Snow and Mountain. I have used both the Frost and the Snow. I find either one of them works wonderfully as the perfect accent to a poinsettia plant.
Diamond Frost is more airy than the slightly more compact Diamond Snow. I am sometimes guilty of using the names Frost and Snow interchangeably.

When Diamond Frost (or Diamond Snow!) and Poinsettias are combined, Proven Winners calls them “Diamond Points”.
I was first introduced to the combination in 2008 when I had my flower shop, Petals & Porch Post. I offered them for sale and also used them when I decorated the local Catholic church at Christmas as well as the local bank.
Having spent most of my life in Midwest and a large part of my professional career as a florist, the first time I saw a poinsettia outside in the landscape in Florida, I almost had a heart attack! I did a double take and actually wanted to grab it and take it inside before the plant got nipped by the cold! Fortunately, I caught myself and realized it wasn’t going to get nipped because it wasn’t cold. I still find myself thinking like a Midwestern gardener and really have to stop and think things through at times.
I have managed to place poinsettias out in my Florida landscape and haven’t tried to run outside with a blanket to cover them!
A Tabletop Version of Diamond Point
The way the Diamond Frost nestles around the base of the poinsettia makes it look like it is floating in a cloud, don’t you think?

Other Uses for Diamond Frost/Snow
For the Holiday season, I combined Diamond Frost, evergreen boughs and an angel vine topiary.

In the summer, I like to combine it with Angel vine and peppermint vinca.
And of course, it looks great with geraniums!
Works Great as A Houseplant too!
