Do you know the secret to quickly refreshing your outdoor area ? Pillow covers! They are the magic ingredient for a quick refresh!

Are you looking for ideas on how to quickly refresh your outdoor area? Let me share my secret – a quick refresh of your outdoor area can be accomplished by simply changing the pillow covers!  Actually, these tips work for refreshing your indoor seating areas as well!

If you have been following me for a while, you might know that I may have a fondness for accent pillows!  It has gotten to the point that I am running out of places to store my out of season accent pillows!  Pillow covers are the perfect solution!

Instead of purchasing new accent pillows for each season or whenever I want to change my color scheme or theme of a room, I can simply purchase new pillow covers.

I first addressed my pillow addiction in this post: Let’s Celebrate Autumn With an Outdoor living Area Reveal!

WHAT IS A PILLOW COVER?

On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.  By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects!  Thank you !

Most of you probably are familiar with pillow covers but in case you aren’t let me describe them for you!  They are like a heavier pillow case with a zipper.  Pillow covers allow you to change the look of your accent pillow with just a tug of a zipper! Just like magic!

I ordered these Summer themed pillow covers from Amazon and they arrived the next day.  I hadn’t planned to refresh the lanai at that particular moment but when I saw how adorable they were, I stopped working on a different project.  I grabbed the pillow covers, a few things for a tabletop centerpiece and raced out to the lanai!

These pillow covers are meant to be used outdoors.  Just to be safe, I do keep them under the roof part of the lanai .  I also sprayed them with fabric protector.  Unfortunately, this particular design is no longer available.  I will add a link at the bottom of the post for something that is similar.

A word of caution when purchasing pillow covers.  Be sure the check the size of the covers against the size of your pillows.  Covers and pillows come in different sizes and you want to be sure the covers will fit your pillows.  The pillow covers I purchased are 18 x 18.

The pillow covers are easy to switch.  Just unzip and remove the insert.  Stuff the insert in the new pillow cover, zip and fluff if necessary!

The pillow covers should have care tags inside of them. I try to only purchase ones that can be machine washed.  Once you have washed and dried the ones that have been outside, you are ready to fold them and store them in a drawer or tote until it is thyme to bring them out again.  The pillow covers take up so much less room than a seasonal pillow!

The inserts are usually machine washable as well.  I usually wash the inserts a couple of times per year.  I make sure they are completely dried before using them again.

LESS THAN 30 MINUTES LATER

THE CENTERPIECE

I changed out the wicker coffee table centerpiece in no time.

If the Relax sign looks familiar, it is because I have used it before .  I originally shared it in this post: The Evolution of the Lanai at the Florida House

The ceramic hot air balloon is actually a sachet holder!  I received it as a gift a long time ago!  I normally keep it in my closet.  Since there is a hot air balloon on the Summer pillow cover, I thought I would use it in my centerpiece!

Thanks for stopping by today for some Summer Outdoor Patio Inspiration!

Save this for later!

A FEW SHOPPING LINKS:

If you are interested in purchasing some pillow covers, here are a few links to help you.  Pillow covers come in many different colors and sizes.

There are hundreds of options to choose from!  Just remember to check the size of the cover to make sure it will work with your pillows.  The ones I bought fit 18 x 18 pillows.

You might want to purchase some fabric protector too to help protect your covers from the elements

[…] I have started using pillow covers instead of purchasing new seasonal pillows.  A pillow cover is similar to a pillowcase for an accent pillow. It is easy to cover a pillow insert with a seasonally appropriate pillow cover.  Using pillow covers makes storing them a lot easier as well! They can be folded and placed in a drawer or tote until it is thyme to get them out for the season.   For more information about the benefits of pillow covers, please see More Summerthyme on the Lanai […]
