More Budget Friendly Bedding Ideas

Spread the love

Searching for an inexpensive way to refresh your bedroom? I’d love to share a few budget friendly bedding ideas!

As An Amazon Associate, I Earn from Qualifying Purchases

I recently went on a short trip to Waco Texas.  I stayed in this wonderful old house.  The bedding was so soft and comfy/cozy!  When I returned home, I decided it was way past time to give our master bedroom bedding a face lift.

Here is what the master bedroom looked like when I started:

Pale Peach/Gray & Moss Green

I really wanted to make it look a little more cozy for the fall & winter.  I ordered the quilted comforter/sham set pictured below. After it arrived, I washed and dried it so that I could start the project the next day.  My husband said “what is that pile of black stuff in the chair?”  Of course, I had to correct his color blindness and tell him it was blue not black.  He didn’t really care what color it was, he didn’t like it.  Sometimes you just have to choose your battles.  I decided to use the set in our guest room.  You can see how it turned out here: Budget Friendly Bedding Ideas for Your Home

The set comes in an array of different colors.  The link below is for the bluish grey color that I purchased.

Just Use the Other Side

Not wanting to spend more money after I had already purchased one comforter/sham set, I decided to see what the opposite side of the existing comforter looked like.  I decided that simply flipping it over would work for now.  The lighting wasn’t the best in the bedroom.  It is a muted moss green.

Add More Pillows

After reversing the comforter, I added a few more pillows. I was originally planning on using these eyelet trimmed pillow shams for a different project but since I hadn’t started it yet, I used them to add some interest to the bedding.

I also had a single rick rack trimmed pillowcase that I thought would look good with my color scheme.   I guess I have replaced the peach with more of a rosy peachy pink color!

I have found that using pillows/pillow covers/pillow shams is an inexpensive and easy way to add color and interest to your room.  You can choose pillows or pillow coverings that match your  décor, or add interest by adding contrasting colors and textures.  Pillows and pillow cases as well as pillow shams can all be found at thrift stores, yard sales, estate sales and online retailers.  You might even find the perfect thing in your linen closet!

Be sure to wash any pre-owned pillows or pillow covers before using them.  Most pillows and pillow inserts can be washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer.  Pillow shams and pillow cases can also be washed in the washing machine.

Use What You Have

I also had this cream colored throw.  It doesn’t get very cold here in Florida but there are a few nights that are chilly enough to warrant an extra cover or two.   I added it to the foot of the bed to add some texture.

Another option would be to cover the existing comforter with a duvet cover.  Since I changed the bedding in the guest room, the duvet cover that was on the guestroom bed could be used in the master bedroom.  Here is how it looked before I switched it for the dark blue comforter.

The Room isn’t Quite Finished….

Both nightstands could also benefit from some reorganization.  I have a bookshelf that is along the wall across from the bed.  We keep our laser printer on top of it and I have some photo albums in the bottom half.  I still need to style the center shelf area.  It was the first piece of furniture that I actually painted with a paint brush.

I also need to hang something on the wall above the head of the bed, but I am still trying to decide what to hang there. Since I may use one of my larger pieces of architectural salvage in the guest room, I might hang one of these wrought iron gates on the wall and then hang a wreath on it.  I would probably spray paint the gate gray or silver.  I think the black might be too harsh.

Or perhaps an old window.  I still haven’t done anything with the one that used to hang over our fireplace in Illinois.  The area over the bed might be a great place for it.
