It’s almost Spring! Does your potting table need a bit of a makeover? Using spray paint to refresh it is quick and easy!
Last Spring, by using spray paint to refresh a potting table, I took a work table with a rusty, worn looking top and gave it a shiny work surface. All of the details are outlined in this post A Quick Potting Bench Makeover
Fast forward to this Spring and after being outside in the elements for ten months, the table was looking pretty sad again. The wood part has held up fairly well but the rain caused the top to rust again. Time to get our old friend, spray paint, out and give the table a quick refresh!
Potting Table February 2022
Using spray paint to refresh a potting table is easy!
I moved the potting table out to the yard and washed it with gentle soap and water. Once I scrubbed the top off and wiped down the legs, it was ready for a new coat of spray paint.
This time, I decided to use a Rust-oleum product. I am hoping this keeps the rust away!
After shaking the can until the paint was thoroughly mixed, I sprayed the top of the potting table. I let the first coat dry.
I ended up spraying the top with two coats of the Rust-oleum product. For the final coat, I used a different brand’s color called Chrome. It made it very shiny! I also added a metal shelf in order to give the table a few more options for displaying plants. Because the legs are wood, I used hard rubber protectors underneath them in hopes of keeping them as dry as possible.
By using spray paint to refresh a potting table, I was able to save the cost of a new potting table or potting bench. I still would like to get an actually potting bench or potting table, but I think I can get at least another season or two out of this one! Instead of spending over $100.00, I was able to spend a few hours and a little spray paint and the cost of the new wire shelf and end up with a refreshed potting table!
While I was taking the pictures, my husband kept saying “Just back up three more steps!” I think he wanted to see me fall into the pool!
[…] As I former florist, I really like potting combo pots and making European Dish Gardens. I would love to have an actual potting bench but I just haven’t found the perfect one yet! In the meantime, I made a potting table out of an old table I used to use in the flower shop. To see how I “made”, please see this post: How to Make a Potting Table […]
