Would you like to learn how to use ornaments & ribbon to add accents to a Holiday gift basket? Here are a few simple tips!
Yikes, Christmas is less than a month away! Do you like to make gift baskets to give to your family and friends? I love to make them! By adding ornaments and a few accents, your gift basket can look even more special!
Holiday Gift Basket Presentation Ideas
Start with A Theme
I usually start with a theme. The basket I am making today is a culinary basket that would be great for a hostess gift or as a gift for one of your friends who likes to cook but may sometimes be short on time! I selected a few of the Mad Dash Mixes mixes.* They have a wide variety of mixes to help you save time while not sacrificing on taste!
On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. Next Select a Basket
I happened to have this peeled wicker basket in my cave of wonders. In case you are wondering, cave of wonders is a term my friend used for the storage area at the flower shop. He had a lot of different terms like that! Now my cave of wonders is the garage!
Instead of a basket, you could use a wrapped box, a tray or even a mixing bowl. You just need something to act as a base to hold everything.
I stuffed the basket with red tissue paper to help hold the items in place. You could also use brown craft paper or the shredded paper they make for gift basket filler. The shredded paper can be messy.
Gather your Accents
The accents are the items that you will use to add extra pizazz to your gift basket. For my accents, I am using some greenery picks, a pretty gift tag with a snowflake design, two faux gingerbread cookie ornaments and a wide ribbon with red snowflakes.
In addition to a theme for the basket itself, I also may have a decorating or secondary theme. My secondary theme for this basket is snowflakes.
Not pictured is a roll of cellophane. We will wrap the basket in cellophane to help keep everything together.
Ready to Build your Basket
Simply place the gift items in the basket in a way that looks good to you. If you have a lot of items or you want each item to be visible, you can add more paper to make things stand up or use glue dots to hold things in place.
I placed the mix packet in the basket in a way that allows most of the labels to be seen.
Add the greenery picks
I simply added the greenery picks in the front and on the sides of the basket. The picks add a pop of color and interest.
Wrap the Basket with Cellophane
In order to wrap the basket, I rolled out the cellophane and placed the basket in the center of the cellophane. I tried to measure it to be sure I would have enough cellophane to wrap the entire basket and have a little at the top. I could have just wrapped cellophane around the part of the basket that holds the mixes, but I like the look of a completely wrapped basket.
I secured the wrap with a wire and used a tiny bit of wide tape to secure the cellophane in the back of the basket.
Add the gift tag and the ornaments
Now you are ready to tie the ornaments and the gift tag to the top of the basket. The ornaments look so cute dangling at the top of the basket. Instead of hanging them there, they could also be placed in the basket with the gift items.
Ready to add the Bow
I am using a wide ribbon. In the floral world, we call this a #40. Ribbon comes in several different widths. I like to use a wider ribbon when making a bow for a gift basket.
I used a smaller width of ribbon to secure the bow and tied it to the top of the cellophane wrapped basket.
Now your basket is ready to go under the tree!
