By using a combination of whimsical accents and silk flowers, you can easily style a round dough bowl for the Fall season!
If you have been following me for awhile, I am sure it comes as no surprise that I do have a bit of a dough bowl addiction! Dough bowls come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The most common shapes are the oval and round. Today I would like to share one way to fill a round dough bowl by using whimsical accents and silk flowers. Let’s get ready to style a round dough bowl!

Before We Get Started:
Just in case this is your first thyme visiting me, let me start with a quick introduction! My name is Kimberly and I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between! Especially rusty and chippy items!
I love to share all the things I have learned over the years. Sometimes I tell stories about my life. Other times, I will share a craft or a recipe. I hope you enjoy your thyme here today and learn at least one thing during your visit!

Now let’s get ready to style a round dough bowl for Autumn!
What Exactly is a Dough Bowl?
It is not perfectly round due to the hand made nature. The sides have this wonderful texture. This particular bowl is beautiful on its own but for fall, I thought I would add a silk flower arrangement.
It is even signed on the bottom! So cool!
Faux Bittersweet
Since we are all friends, I will share a couple of florist’s secrets! This is the same technique that I shared in 5 Fabulous Frugal Fall Decorating Ideas. The faux bittersweet stem shown above can be taken apart and turned into 5 separate smaller stems. You simply gently pull it apart where it is connected to the main stem.
It looks cute just like this but in order to add some whimsy and motion to the final arrangement I like to make squiggles!
For this step, you just need a pen or other round object that you can twist the little branch around. In order for this to work, the stems need to be individually wired. The berries are individually wired too so I pulled those out a bit to give it a more natural look.
You can twist as little or as much as you want! Aren’t they so much cuter this way?
Now we will gather the silk flower stems that we want to use for our arrangement.
I chose a creamy pale yellow hydrangea. In flower arranging, it often works best to use odd numbers. I have 3 hydrangea heads.
Since I only had 2 roses, that is what we will use! The floral police aren’t going to arrest us for using an even number!
For more texture I have some faux grass and some berry stems .
The Process
Simply place the stems in the bowl. You are going to place the stems in a Criss cross pattern so that the stems support each other.
Working around the perimeter of the bowl, add your berry stems next.
Fill in with the rest of your stems.
The faux succulents make a really nice focal point on the sides.
Feather in your grass and your bittersweet . This is a garden style arrangement so you can place the stems however it looks best to you! It will be asymmetrical.
Now you have a beautiful arrangement that you can display thru Thanksgiving!

With the techniques explained above, you can style your dough bowl for any season! If you are concerned that your arrangement isn’t secure enough in your bowl, I show how to make an aluminum wire armature to add stability in this post:
Another option to add stability to your arrangement is to use a hydrangea as an armature. That technique is outlined here:
