Let me show you how to decorate a sugar mold for Spring! For Valentine’s Day this year, I wanted to create at least one vignette that would be easy to transition into Spring. I also knew I wanted to incorporate my off-white sugar mold.
I found the “You & Me” sign at a local store. I think it will look great with the rest of the vignette!
How to get at least 2 arrangements from 1 garland!
While I was at the store, I found this blue hydrangea garland. It was approximately 4 foot long. I thought I could easily take it apart and have enough silk flower material to fill my sugar mold and possibly make an additional arrangement. The flowers would look good with the colors in the wall hanging in the background. The cream-colored berries would make a nice accent and blend well with the wooden hearts and the sugar mold.
Cut The Garland Apart
The garland was easier to dismantle using my floral bunch cutter.
After the garland was taken apart, I had all these different stems to work with.
Because the stems are individually wired, I can twist the stems around a pen to make whimsical curlicues to add interest and movement to the arrangement.
The Decorated Sugar Mold
This particular sugar mold is a reproduction piece. Sugar used to be sold to consumers in cone shapes. This was before granulated sugar came on the market. Now they are used as fun, home decor pieces.
Don’t Be Blue! I Picked You!
This antique basket is so sweet I wanted to use it in my display also.
I wanted to add more texture, so I cut a few pieces off of this faux rosemary bush.
In floral design, we try to work in odd numbers. It doesn’t always work but this time it did. I have three hydrangea stems and I placed them in the basket. I started adding the rosemary and decided I needed another type of texture.
I cut a couple of stems off of this bush of artificial hops and added them to the basket.
I made a bow out of Valentine ribbon I purchased at the Dollar Store. While it is red and does have hearts, I think it is neutral enough that it could be used past Valentine’s Day.
The finished basket!

I bought one of these for my mother in law and didn’t realize it was a sugar mold! I’ve almost bought one for myself a couple of times, but wasn’t sure what I would do with it! Now I know! Off to find one!

I became addicted to them several years ago! I have several different sizes. I really love this white one, though. I will have to share some more ways to decorate them! thanks for reading!
