How do you affix feet to a tray when nails aren’t an option? Let me show you what I did to solve the problem !
Just a little over a year ago, I participated in my first Blogger challenge. We were tasked with making a footed tray and then decorating it for the Holiday season. I wanted to use the tray pictured above . However, it was made out of very thin wood. I was concerned that using nails would cause the wood to split.
I also needed to figure out what I was going to use for feet!
These little blue pots originally had tiny little succulents growing in them. I had saved them after I repotted the succulents. They were the perfect size and the perfect color to serve as feet for my tray. But how would I affix them to the bottom of the tray?
A glue gun would be one way to affix them. Oddly enough, I didn’t have a glue gun or a glue pot. So what else could I use? Velcro! Let’s see if Velcro strips would work! By cutting small squares of Velcro and affixing them to the bottom of the tray and the other piece to the bottom of the pot, I could make them work!
Here is the completed tray before I decorated it!

This post was actually my 3rd most popular blog post last year!
Once I had the tray decorated for the Holidays, I was able to add more decorations as it got closer to Christmas. The picture below is my favorite Christmas look for the tray! I really love how the piece of architectural salvage looks like angel wings!
The tray works well as a year round decor piece in my home. Below is how I have it decorated for Autumn.

Not only did I use the Velcro to attach these pots to the tray as feet, I used it in a couple of other craft applications.

I also used the Velcro to attach a stick to the back of an ornament in order to make a “flower”
I also used Velcro to attach this child’s garment to a piece of board in order to frame it.

[…] Since I don’t have a glue gun (sad, I know), I attached the stake to the back of the snowflake using Velcro. I actually use this Velcro method quite often. I am able to quickly change things out if I decide I want to use them somewhere else.
