Ready to Get Started
As part of the downsizing/settling my parents’ estate process a few years ago, I spent almost 3 weeks back in Illinois finally finishing getting the farmhouse cleared out for the next owners. One Sunday, I spent several hours staging the fireplace with various vignettes.
In order to start my Spring theme, I used part of an old fence on top of the mantel. A set of black wrought iron gates acts as a fireplace screen.
To decorate the fence, I added a Fresh Flower market sign and a few old garden tools. By using my bolt cutters, I was able to cut the stems off of two artificial white hydrangeas and used them as accents on top of the candlesticks. The old wooden gray box is filled with artificial herbs.
With the black garden gates acting as a background, I filled an old lard bucket with artificial hydrangeas and other wispy greenery. I made a hand tied swag of mixed white flowers and tied them with a basil green ribbon to hang next to the fireplace tools.

Adding Fresh Flower Accents
The lilacs were in full bloom while I was there. I gathered some and put them in this old enamelware vessel.
In front of the fireplace, I used a scrub top primitive table that a friend had given me a few years ago as a Christmas gift. She was going to paint it and resell it. I threw such a fit about her painting it that she decided to give it to me! I love this table so much. I call it “my Glo Ann” table after the friend who gave it to me.
For this vignette, I placed several stems of fresh lilacs in an old blue Mason jar. I used this mercury glass tray to display the lilacs. Two metal heart boxes accent the display.

The wheels are a new addition to the “Glo Ann” table. My caretaker added them to the table for me. The legs come off the tabletop so that the table is easy to move and to store.
I actually didn’t realize how dirty the table was until I moved it into the gathering room for its photo shoot. It had been out in the pavilion for months!. I used a sandpaper sponge to remove some candle residue and then gave the top a good cleaning.
