Easy Solar Lantern Centerpiece

Spread the love

Looking for a creative way to shine a little light on an outdoor celebration? Simply add a solar powered lantern to your centerpiece!

If you are planning an outdoor evening event this fall, why not add a solar powered lantern to your centerpiece?  The addition of this solar powered lantern really makes this centerpiece shine!

When I think about adding interest to my Fall centerpieces, I look for ways to add interest or a touch of whimsy by adding something unexpected!  Instead of using this hanging solar lantern for its intended purpose, I decided to use it as a light source for a centerpiece!

Let me show you how easy it is to put together!

Before We Get Started

Before we get started today, first let me say I am so glad you are here!  My name is Kimberly and I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between!  Especially rusty and chippy items!

If you are not familiar with my story, several years ago I completed the long process of moving from a farmhouse in Illinois to our current home in Florida.  I have detailed the process in a series of blog posts that can be found here:  Thyme to Let Go; How I Downsized My Family Homestead .   It was a bittersweet experience involving many, many steps (and more than a few tears).  Even though all of the things are finally in Florida,  I am still wrestling with finding ways to store them.  The challenge is very real!

I love to share all the things I have learned over the years.  Sometimes I tell stories about my life.  Other times, I will share a craft or a recipe. I hope you enjoy your thyme here today and learn at least one thing during your visit!

Let’s get ready to add shine some light on how to make this centerpiece!

Easy Solar Lantern Centerpiece

Getting Started – Gather Your Elements

One of the first steps is to gather a variety of elements that I may want to use in my centerpiece.  The elements for this display came together rather easily.  I was able to create this centerpiece by “shopping my home”.  By shopping my home , I was able to create a budget friendly centerpiece!

I knew this centerpiece was going to be placed on our outdoor rectangular table.  The long wooden tray that I used in a previous Autumn display is the perfect size!

The pumpkin  candle ring from this display is the perfect size.  Fortunately, I did have two of these candle rings, so I didn’t have to take the ring off of the battery candle display!

If you don’t have a candle ring, a few faux pumpkins and leaves can be used instead.   The raffia spheres will add texture and interest to the centerpiece.

This weathered orange garden tool will be perfect tucked in the end of the centerpiece.  A piece of green jute woven ribbon underneath the garden tool helps bring out the green in the fall fabric.  The ribbon adds texture to the centerpiece as well.

Oops, almost forgot the most important part!  The solar lantern!

Create The Centerpiece

Now that all the elements have been gathered, it is thyme to create the centerpiece!  To make the centerpiece, simply add the elements to the wooden tray and then nestle the solar lantern in the center as a focal point!  So easy!

I added a small piece of artificial hops to add texture.  I also added a couple of pieces of a cream colored wispy vine to add motion.

Because of the types of plants used and how they are “planted” in the container.
