Bring a subtle holiday feel to your home office by investing a little time and using items you already have!
I spend so much time in my office, I decided to give it a quick refresh for the holidays! While it didn’t look bad before, with a few simple touches, the office feels a bit more festive!
Let’s see where I started!
A Work In Progress – Shabby Chic Bookcase
Adding holiday touches to the home office is a quick and easy project. I used a variety of items I already had and reorganized a bit as I worked.
I gave the bookcase a really quick refresh. I tucked in a mirror and a framed card into the back of two of the shelves. The bottom shelf of the top of the hutch really needed a decluttering.
Don’t you love the bread machine on top of the small bookcase! I need to move it to another spot! Perhaps the hall closet or pantry would be a better location!
Close up of the shelf:
The piece of coral was in my Grandmother’s shell collection. The starfish on the shelf above it was also part of her collection.
Adding Quilts
The quilts were made by paternal Grandmother. I have my Dad’s baby quilt and parts of another quilt his Mom had made for him. I need to add them to this collection.
Adding in A Little More Holiday
Wicker Coffee Table
I have a few pieces of Pfaltzgraff Winterberry Holiday dishes. This hurricane looks nice on this embossed tin tray.
Vintage Metal Presentation Basket
I refreshed the arrangement in the metal presentation basket by adding more greenery and a sprig of red & green berries. I placed a small cloche over a shell covered vase that also belonged to my Grandmother.
This shabby chic yellow book shelf used to be in the pantry at the farmhouse. I decided to bring it to Florida at the last minute. It works great to hold some of my book collection.
If you are just starting to follow me, our journey from the farmhouse in Illinois to our home in Florida is detailed in a series of posts. The journey starts here: Thyme to Let Go

with many steps in between and a few tears as well!
Sprout Grow Bloom
The sign is perched on top of a small piece of architectural salvage. A vintage bathtub foot serves as a book end. I tucked a small Christmas book between the two flowerpots.
The Snowmen Find A Home
These are just a few of my Jim Shore Snowmen. When we lived in the farmhouse, I usually had them displayed on the fireplace mantel as shown in the photo below. This display isn’t quite finished. I flipped one of my carriers on its side to create a display shelf.
More about my obsession with vintage carriers and tool boxes can be found here:
There are many sizes and styles of the Jim Shore Snowmen.
My Favorite Basket
I love everything about this basket! It is the perfect size! The color and the patina are amazing!
The celadon green basket was my inspiration for the color palette for the office. I purchased the basket from an antique dealer friend from Missouri. He had posted the basket for sale on his Facebook page. He brought it to me in Illinois when he was doing an antique show in the area.
The hydrangea pillow is a nice accent to the love seat. More information about my love of the celadon color can be found here:
For the Holidays, I moved the basket into the living room and added some wintery greenery.
The Results
My objective was to add comfort and a touch of the holidays to my office. Like many of you, I have been spending a lot of thyme in my home office. After the holidays, I plan to reorganize the closet in the office and redo the bookcase. By using things, I already had on hand, I was able to give the office a quick refresh without spending any money.
From Farmhouse to Florida
The middle two shelves of the bookcase reflect the From Farmhouse to Florida theme.

Celadon is one of my very favorite colors … I love how you’ve used it as the base point for everything in the room. And, it works so well when you start adding in Christmas colors too. Clever idea with the love seat … it’s so shabby chic which is a look that never ever goes out of style. I could look at the details of your shelf decor forever … this is such a charming room. xo
