Autumn Garden Style Decor Ideas

October 6, 2023 by Kimberly Snyder Leave a Comment

Spread the love

Do you love to garden? Why not share that love with your quests by using garden tools and terra cotta pots in your decorating?

Welcome to Fall in Florida!

I’d love to show you how to decorate an entryway using a wrought iron shelf, some garden decor and a few side tables.  Won’t you join me while I refresh the entryway using decor items that reflect my interests?

Autumn Garden Style Decor Ideas

Our entryway is approximately 5 x 7.  The simple screen door opens to a space with a concrete floor and screening on the west side.  This entryway leads to a traditional wood entry door.   The first step is to remove everything in order to  sweep and mop the concrete floor.

After the floor is dry, the next step is to add a display piece like this baker’s rack .  I also added the pineapple stepping stone that says Welcome.  The iron lantern will be filled with flower pots and moved to a different shelf before I am finished.

In all honesty, picking my theme and the decor items was probably the first step but we will call it step 3 .  My theme for the entryway is Gardening is the Key to My Heart.  I found these keys when I was cleaning out the farmhouse house as part of the downsizing/moving process.

To reflect my theme, I will incorporate a few plants, garden tools, keys and a heart shaped topiary.

The box belonged to my Dad’s brother-in-law.  It is just the right size to fit into a number of different displays.  One of my favorite ways to display it is below.

I am getting off track, aren’t I?  Back to the entryway…..

To decorating the entryway for Autumn, I was able to shop my house meaning I didn’t have to purchase anything new to complete this project.  I was able to find almost everything I needed just by looking around my house.  There is one exception, the two side tables on the left side of the entryway are new.  I found them on line and I thought they would be perfect for this space!  So I was almost able to refresh the area without spending any money!

The plant below is Angel Vine.  It is one of my absolute favorite plants!  I used it a lot when I had my flower shop.  It was my signature plant.  The small green leaves grow on sturdy thin almost wire like stems.  It grows really well here in Florida.  This plant is accented with a rustic looking wire heart.   The black ashtray is actually from the Mark 2100 hotel in Fort Lauderdale FL where my Mom used to vacation every February.  I am sure the hotel itself doesn’t exist anymore but the ashtray is a great memento.

To add more touches of Autumn to my baker’s rack , I added a pair of faux white pumpkins.  The smaller one fits nicely in a 6  inch candle ring.  I use a lot of faux pumpkins in my Autumn decorating.  Real ones don’t last very long in the Florida heat!

I moved the iron lantern to the bottom shelf and added a few flower pots to it.

Terra cotta flower pots are one of my many weaknesses.  I think I brought at least 7 boxes of flower pots with me when I came back from one of my many trips to Illinois when I was trying to complete the moving process.

To finish off my Autumn gardening inspired baker’s rack, I added a hand tied bouquet to a wall pocket made out of old barn tin.  It fit perfectly in the corner of the rack.  All of the details on how to make an Autumn inspired hand tied bouquet can be found here:

Now we are ready to turn attention to the other side of the entryway.  I normally keep a metal cart in this area but it was looking a little sad.  The screen does allow a little bit of water to get in if the rain is coming from  a certain direction.  I love this cart but it is thyme to give it a new coat of paint.  I wheeled it into the garage until I can get around to painting it.  After it is painted, it will probably go out on the lanai.

In place of the cart, I brought these two tables in .  They fit perfectly.  I wanted to be sure there was still enough room for people to get into the entryway without having to stand sideways!  The tables are made of metal and have wooden tops.

I added a second angel vine plant.  This one is actually a heart shaped topiary .  I planted it in the mustard colored pot to give it a more Fall feel.

Through the screen , you can see almost all of the old grindstone that I brought back from Illinois.  Like so many things, it belonged to my Mom.  I love the patina of the old iron stand it sits on .

I love using garden antiques in my landscape.  If you are interested in learning more about how I have incorporated them in to my garden, there is a lot of information here: How To Decorate with Antique Garden Tools & Accessories

Now the entryway is a seasonal representation of my personality and my decorating style, which I call “Kim Style”.

If only the entryway was a bit wider, I would put these chairs in there!

I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe God puts certain people in your path for a reason. An example of this occurred on Tuesday. It was colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy day. I was really nervous about how it would all work since it was my first time since I had my cancer surgery.

The nurse that was taking care of me in the pre op area turned out to be the same nurse who had prayed for me last year. My husband was in the parking lot of the medical center speaking with his friend who happened to work at the center with this particular nurse. I was very sick at the time and they prayed for my healing. It was great to be able to thank her in person and let her see that the prayers had been answered. ❤️

Then the anesthesiologist came in and told me about his cousin who had also been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer about a year ago. He mentioned some of the treatments his cousin had had and how important a positive attitude is. I was touched that he took the time to tell me about his cousin’s experience.

We had arranged in advance to have my husband’s friend as the nurse anesthesist. He was able to pray with us as well as reassure us about the procedure.

The procedure went well. The three polyps that the surgeon removed were sent to pathology. The report is already back and there no evidence of cancer. Prayers were answered again❤️
