Are you looking for Garden Style decorating ideas? As part of my quest to get back to my “roots”, I love to use garden themed items!
I love to incorporate decor items that reflect my hobbies and interests. I feel that is a way that I can share my personality as well as surround myself with the things I love. Here are a few ways I use Garden Style decorating ideas in my home.
What is Garden Style?
Garden Style decorating ideas include finding ways to bring the outdoors inside. Think plants, shutters, wicker furniture, garden tools, flowers. Anything that relates to nature: bird houses, bird cages, plants, butterflies, garden containers, watering cans, baskets, plants…. Did I mention plants?

Inspirational Signs
Over the past several years, I have become rather “sign” crazy. By that, I mean I have been using more inspirational signs in my decor. I really love anything that is related to gardening and “roots”. This particular sign is actually hanging in the dining area but the saying ties in quite well with my topic today.
My Home Office –
I spend a lot of thyme in my office. I use a lot of garden style decorating ideas in this room!
Coastal Shabby Chic Home Office
When we first bought the Florida house from my Great Aunt in early 2018, this room was going to be the guest room. It wasn’t long before I discovered the light was better in this room and I decided to make it my office. At the time, we were planning to be snow birds and only spend short amounts of time here. Why I thought I needed an office at that point, I don’t really know. As things turned out, our plans changed later that year and we decided to move to Florida full time. The process of getting the Illinois property ready to be put on the market and the process of actually getting it sold is all detailed in a series of blog posts with the Thyme to Let Go theme. I believe there are 7 segments. It starts here:
and wraps up here:
with several steps in between!
It was during the process of downsizing/moving that I decided to start the blog. I really did need my own office!
Throughout the process of downsizing from a 3100 square foot farmhouse with 9 out buildings, several off site storage units, and a pizzeria with a back room and an upstairs filled with my flower shop things, I have often compared moving into the 1700 square foot Florida house as trying to stuff 10 pounds of flour into a 5 pound sack! I really did get rid of a lot of stuff but I held on to a lot, too!
The Love Seat
My Great Aunt left several pieces of furniture with the house. One piece was a love seat with a hide a bed. At first, I covered it with two white sheets. Eventually, I added some extra cushions and more material . All of the details can be found in this blog post:
Additional Garden Style Touches for Summer
For Summer, I added a few more garden style touches and rearranged a few of the items. I love this book case! Like many of my things, it has a great story behind it. My cousin found it for me in Indiana. The back got ruined so we pulled it off. I eventually want to add some beadboard to the back but right now it works without a back since it is up against the wall.

You have so many wonderful pieces staged together Kim, but my favorite are the two green pots together. They remind me of my grandmother, she had some just like them. I loved visiting her in the summer at their summer place. Isn’t it lovely when you see something, and it takes you right back to a memory, and you get to think about it for a while. Thank you for that.
