A Look Back: Your Favorite Posts!

December 26, 2023 by Kimberly Snyder 1 Comment

Spread the love

Decluttering tips, frugal decor ideas and floral design techniques have been the favorite topics on the blog this year!

Pictured below is my 6 year old self wishing for a career as an entrepreneur!  Little did I know what a journey this would be!  From the early days when the business was known as Kim’s Kakes, Kuttings & Kandles Too to Petals & Porch Posts to Makin’ Pizza to From Farmhouse to Florida, my love of herbs, decorating, flowers, cooking and family is woven throughout.

The amazing young woman in the photo with me is KariAnne Wood from Thistlewood Farms.   I have followed her blog for several years.  Since I had subscribed to her mailing list, I received emails daily.  I didn’t always open them… sorry, KariAnne!  But one that I received a little over three years ago , really caught my eye.  KariAnne was starting a blogging Mastermind group to teach the business of blogging.

I had toyed with the idea of starting a blog for several years at that point.  I just never did it.  I naively thought it was just like Facebook… sit down, write, post, done!   So I signed up thinking “how hard can it be?”  I seem to say that a lot right before jumping into something new!  Sometimes, I probably should have dug a little deeper to see how hard it really was!

In all honesty, KariAnne’s group was really geared towards people who were already blogging and looking to take their blogs to the next level.  She was gracious enough to make room for a handful of newbies and give us the tips and guidance that we needed to get started.  She called our group The Creators.

It is Harder than it looks, folks!

I soon found out that it is much harder than it looks!  There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that most people don’t realize.  Between KariAnne’s help and the help of another lady in the group, I finally posted my first post under the From Farmhouse to Florida name on September 2, 2020.

While not as physically grueling as working in the flower shop or sweating next to the 500 degree pizza oven, blogging can be mentally grueling.  So much to learn!  From Pinterest to Instagram to TikTok and everything in between, many times my head is just spinning!  But one of the most important things about blogging is that it is your business and there is room for everyone who wants become a creator/influencer/entrepreneur!  Each of us brings something unique to the blogging world!

A Quick Thank You

Before I get started with the review, I’d like to take the thyme to thank you for following me on my journey!

Perhaps you originally found my blog via a blog hop, a link party, a Google search or via Hometalk.  Regardless of how you started following me, I am so glad you are here!  I have a passion for flowers (a former florist) and flour (a former pizzeria owner) and many things in between!  Especially rusty and chippy items! Sometimes I describe myself as a Zone 6a girl living in a tropical world!  If you are a gardener, you will know what I mean!

I love to share all the things I have learned over the years.  Sometimes I tell stories about my life.  Other times, I will share a craft or a recipe.  I do like to use the word “thyme” instead of “time” in my writing!  I have so much to share!

If you would like to learn more about my journey, all the details can be found here:

Now it is thyme to get started on our year in review!

So, grab a mug of hot tea (herbal of course) and get ready for a look back!

Your Top Ten* Favorite Posts from the Past Year

Frugal decorating ideas were a very popular topic!  I call this “shopping your home”!  Simple makeovers and decluttering tips were also among the most visited topics.  And everyone must have as many mason jars sitting around as I do!  Inquiring minds wanted to know how to use them in creative ways around the house!

If you are interested in seeing what I know about cookin’, my favorite food related posts can be found here: Readers’ Favorite Recipes

Let’s see which decorating posts you liked the most!

#1 Farmhouse Floors Refreshed with Rejuvenate

My post on how to quickly refresh your wood floors was my most popular post in 2023.   I was able to bring some life back into the wood floors at the farmhouse by simply cleaning them with a product by Rejuvenate!

#2  Let’s Create a SpringThyme Bouquet

Are you looking for tips on how to create an easy silk bouquet?  In this post, I share some simple tips on designing this one sided bouquet.  It can be used as a swag, a centerpiece or even placed into a vase or basket.

#3 How to Decorate with Antique Garden Tools & Accessories

I love to work vintage and antique items into my displays, even in my garden!  Antique garden tools & accessories are the perfect item to help add interest! Both inside your home and outside in the landscape!

#4 Can This Table Be Saved?

This spring, it was finally thyme to break out the chalk paint spray paint and give this mesh patio table top the makeover it so desperately needed!  I was so happy with the results!

#5 Curious about How to Use an Old Door?

Have you been to a flea market or vintage sale and noticed a bunch of old doors leaning against a building?  Did you pass them up because you didn’t know what to do with them?  This post includes several of my favorite ideas on how to use an old door or window!

#6 Easy Spring Blooming Garden Basket

A top ten list of mine wouldn’t be complete without at least one European Dish Garden post!  This vintage basket filled with blooming plants is so easy to put together!  I used it for our Easter centerpiece but it could also be used for Mother’s Day or any Spring occasion!

#7 Decorate Without Spending A Dime

Don’t have the budget for new home decor? No problem! Simply shop your home and repurpose items to create a fresh new look!

#8 A New Look for Spring

This silk arrangement was originally a very tired looking arrangement.  I changed out a few flowers and added new battery lights to turn it into a Christmas arrangement.  Instead of storing it until the next year, I added Spring flowers and beaded wire to give it a fresh new Springy look!

#9 Simple Succulent Centerpiece

This succulent centerpiece can be used year round: outside in the warmer months and then brought inside for the colder months.  It is an easy care planter made with low maintenance succulents.  I used a battery candle in this one but you could use an actual candle as long as you don’t leave it burning unattended!

#10 Autumn Rustic Garden Style Centerpiece

An easy way to use your old garden carriers is to fill them with seasonal produce and accent the display with everlasting!

I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe I don’t talk about my faith a lot. I do believe God puts certain people in your path for a reason. An example of this occurred on Tuesday. It was colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy day. I was really nervous about how it would all work since it was my first time since I had my cancer surgery.

The nurse that was taking care of me in the pre op area turned out to be the same nurse who had prayed for me last year. My husband was in the parking lot of the medical center speaking with his friend who happened to work at the center with this particular nurse. I was very sick at the time and they prayed for my healing. It was great to be able to thank her in person and let her see that the prayers had been answered. ❤️

Then the anesthesiologist came in and told me about his cousin who had also been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer about a year ago. He mentioned some of the treatments his cousin had had and how important a positive attitude is. I was touched that he took the time to tell me about his cousin’s experience.

We had arranged in advance to have my husband’s friend as the nurse anesthesist. He was able to pray with us as well as reassure us about the procedure.

The procedure went well. The three polyps that the surgeon removed were sent to pathology. The report is already back and there no evidence of cancer. Prayers were answered again❤️
