In place of a traditional top ten review, this year I sat down and figured out which topics you found the most intriguing. The mantel at the farmhouse provided the perfect spot to decorate for the seasons! The post linked above was the most popular of all the different fireplace decorating posts. In this post, I also talk about where the gate pictured below came from and where its “twin” is.
Another popular fireplace mantel decorating posts is the one I wrote about decorating the mantel for the various seasons. I do miss having a mantel and I am still trying to figure out where to put a faux fireplace or at least a mantel in our home in Florida.

I also love to use architectural salvage pieces in my decorating. The matching corbels in the picture above were originally part of one long piece of gingerbread. While cleaning out the barn during the downsizing process, my helpers found 5 large pieces of gingerbread! I still don’t really know where they came from!

In addition to architectural salvage, I love to decorate with old carriers, wooden boxes and lots of rusty things!

May 2021 marked the end of an era. The farmhouse that had been in my family since 1942 was sold to a new family. It was a bittersweet event. I hope that the new family will love it as much I have.
