Let’s “Spring” into Autumn

August 1, 2025 by Kimberly Snyder 21 Comments

Spread the love

Instead of packing away them away, why not reuse your Spring containers for Autumn? I’d love to share one of the ways I do it!

Let’s “Spring” into Autumn!

Spring flower garden metal box

Instead of packing away them away, why not reuse your Spring containers?  This tin wall pocket or planter box is embossed with the words “Spring Flower Garden Blooms”.  For the Spring season, I had placed a bundle of faux herbs and one hydrangea stem in it.  To see more about this tablescape, please visit this post:Early Spring Garden Style Tabletop Vignette

Since Autumn is just around the corner, I thought about packing it away until next Spring.  But then I realized that with the strategic placement of a bouquet of Autumn silk flowers, I could hide the word “Spring”, and no one would know it was really a Spring decor item! Such a simple way to reuse your spring containers!

Preparing The Hand Tied Bouquet

First, I removed the greenery and the flowers from the tin wall pocket and gave it a good dusting.  I decided to use the hydrangea head in a vignette in our front entryway.  I took the bundle of faux mixed herbs apart and spread them out so that they had a flat back since this was going to be a one-sided arrangement.  Because the stems were individually wired, it was easy to bend the stems to make the bouquet look more natural and wispy.

It was easy to add a few silk fall leaves, some wispy natural-colored twigs and two stems of golden toned accent flowers.

After I had the flowers in place, I secured the stems with a rubber band to hold them together.

Almost Ready to Wrap the Stems

I placed the bouquet in the wall pocket to check to make sure the bouquet was big enough to hide the word “Spring”.  It was, so I moved on to the next step.

Handle  Treatment

I used brown floral tape to wrap the stems.  The floral tape sticks to itself as you stretch it around the stems.  A gentle pull is all it takes.  If you pull too hard, the tape will rip. You can find floral tape on Amazon or at your local craft store.  It does come in a variety of colors.  I keep several different colors on hand.

The picture below is of the bouquet stems wrapped in the brown tape.

I decided to wrap the stems in a sage green twine to add more texture. This step is optional since the stem is going to be hidden in the tin pocket.

To do this, I started at the top of the handle (the stems) and tied a piece of twine.  Then I wrapped the twine around the handle twice and tied a knot at the top.

To add more interest to the bouquets, I added a bow.  I made a 3 loop bow out of the wired pumpkin printed burlap ribbon. I find the wired edge ribbon is much easier to work with.  This ribbon is very similar to what I used.

The bouquet is ready to be placed in the container.  No one will ever know that is says “Spring” behind the bouquet!
