Thyme to “Spring” into Autumn

August 13, 2026 by Kimberly Snyder 21 Comments

Give your Spring containers a second life for Fall with easy, budget‑friendly styling tips. Learn how to transform a tin wall pocket into a warm autumn accent!

Let’s “Spring” into Autumn!

Instead of packing away your Spring containers, give them a second life for Fall. With just a few simple styling tweaks, you can turn Spring décor into warm, autumn‑ready accents — no extra storage, no extra clutter, and no one will ever know they started the year as Spring pieces.

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite ways to reuse a Spring container for the Autumn season.

After-

Instead of storing it until next year, I realized a fuller, hand‑tied Fall bouquet would completely cover the Spring wording — letting me reuse the container without changing a thing.

A perfect example of frugal, flexible seasonal decorating.

Silk Arrangement in a wall pocket

Before –

This tin wall pocket or planter box is embossed with the words “Spring Flower Garden Blooms”.  For the Spring season, I had placed a bundle of faux herbs and one hydrangea stem in it.

How to Repurpose Your Spring Containers for Fall

Materials List

To repurpose your Spring container for Fall, you’ll need:

  • Spring container (tin wall pocket, ceramic pot, basket, or any seasonal vessel)
  • Fall floral stems — silk leaves, twigs, grasses, or seasonal picks
  • Existing Spring greenery you want to reuse (optional)
  • Rubber band for securing stems
  • Brown floral tape
  • Twine or jute (sage green works beautifully for Fall)
  • Wired Fall ribbon — burlap, pumpkin print, plaid, or harvest tones
  • Scissors or floral snips

Step 1: Clear & Prep the Container

  • Remove any Spring greenery or florals
  • Dust the inside and outside
  • Check for loose edges or bent metal
  • Set aside any stems you want to reuse elsewhere (my hydrangea head went straight into a front‑entry vignette)

Step 2: Build a One‑Sided Fall Bouquet

Because the wall pocket sits flat against the wall, a one‑sided bouquet works beautifully.

I used:

  • The faux herb bundle from Spring (pulled apart and flattened)
  • Silk Fall leaves
  • Wispy natural twigs
  • Two golden accent stems

Since the stems were individually wired, it was easy to bend and shape them into a soft, wispy Fall arrangement.

Once everything looked balanced, I secured the stems with a rubber band.

Step 3: Wrap the Stems

To give the bouquet a finished look:

  • Wrap the stems with brown floral tape

I used brown floral tape to wrap the stems.  The floral tape sticks to itself as you stretch it around the stems.  A gentle pull is all it takes.  If you pull too hard, the tape will rip. You can find floral tape on Amazon or at your local craft store.  It does come in a variety of colors.  I keep several different colors on hand to use in my floral projects.

  • Add sage green twine for texture (optional)

  • Tie a simple 3‑loop bow using wired pumpkin‑print burlap ribbon

To add more interest to the bouquets, I added a bow.  I made a 3 loop bow out of the wired pumpkin printed burlap ribbon. I find the wired edge ribbon is much easier to work with.  This ribbon is very similar to what I used.

Step 4: Place the Bouquet & Hide the Spring Label

Test the bouquet inside the pocket to make sure it fully covers the word “Spring.” If the arrangement is wide enough — and it usually is — the container instantly becomes a Fall piece.

No repainting. No re‑labeling. No storage. Just smart seasonal styling.  No one will ever know that is says “Spring” behind the bouquet!

Why repurposing spring containers for fall works so well

  • Budget‑friendly: You reuse what you already own
  • Space‑saving: No need to store seasonal containers
  • Flexible: Works with tin pockets, ceramic pots, baskets, and more
  • Fast: A 10–15 minute project
  • Perfect for Early Fall: Light, airy, and not overly rustic or heavy
