Hanging Mason Jar for a Late Summer Event

Spread the love

Are you looking for a unique way to add color to your late Summer outdoor event?  Why not try making hanging vases out of vintage blue mason jars?

Have you ever wondered how to make a hanging mason jar? Let me show you how easy it is!  All you need is a jar, some aluminum wire and a pair of needle nose pliers!

How To Make A Hanging Mason Jar

You will need an assortment of mason jars.  I really like the vintage blue ones but you can use clear if you want.

On this blog, I may sometimes use affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you purchase via the link. The price will be the same whether you use the affiliate link or go directly to the vendor’s website using a non-affiliate link.  By using my affiliate links to shop, it helps me to be able to continue bringing you fresh new ideas and projects!  Thank you!

You will need decorative wire to form into a handle.  Smithers Oasis makes a variety of decorative aluminum wire.  An example of red  Diamond wire is shown below.   For this photo, I have formed in the shape of a bow.  The wire is very pliable and super easy to work with .

a collection of Oasis wire products

Shown below is Aluminum wire in pink.   See how easy it is to wrap it around the twig.  This is the same type of wire I used for this project.  There are other brands of aluminum wire available.  I personally have only used the Smither’s Oasis brand.  The blue color that I used is currently unavailable.

Form the Handles

Cut a length of the Aluminum wire .  Wrap it around the top of the jar several times and then form a handle.  Make a hook shape and attach the hanger to the opposite side of the jar.  Use your vise grips or needle nose pliers to crimp the wire in order to be sure it is secure.

I added some sheer ribbon to the handle to add more interest and motion.

Now you are ready to fill your vases with your choice of flowers.  For this late summer celebration, I used a variety of orange, cream and yellow flowers.

The Finished Hanging Mason Jar

You will also need a shepards hook or something to hang your mason jar vase on.  A word of caution:  please make sure your handle is securely fastened to the jar before filling it with your floral arrangement.

I did a test “hang” over carpet in case it fell !  I didn’t want to break the glass jar!  Once you are confident that your handle is secure and can hold your jar, you are ready to fill your jar with either fresh or faux flowers!

Save this pin for later!

Another Option Using Rustic Wire:

In addition to the aluminum wire, Smither’s Oasis makes several other wires including one called Rustic Wire.  The instructions on how to make a hanging mason jar with Rustic Wire can be found here:
