Do you have a wooden pumpkin sign that is just a bit blah? Let me show you a quick way to add a touch of whimsy to your sign!

The Pumpkin Sign Before

wooden pumpkin sign-before

Do you have a wooden pumpkin sign that needs a little refreshing before the Autumn season?  It could be a sign that you have had for awhile or perhaps picked up at a garage sale earlier this summer.  Maybe it is something you found at the Dollar Store.  It is still in good shape, it just needs a little bit of something to make it “Pop”.

Let me show you a quick way to add interest to your sign that will take it from blah to “WOW” in under an hour.

The Supplies

For this project, I am using three products made by the Smithers Oasis Company.  The brown Rustic Wire will be used to add texture to the stem.  The Diamond Wire in the picture is red but I will be using gold Diamond Wire to add a touch of whimsey to the leaf area on the sign.  The very thin crimped wire in the front of the box is called boullion.  I am using the boullion wire to tie the Diamond Wire whimsical accent to the sign.

I originally thought I might use the burlap ribbon decorated with glittery pumpkins to make a new hanger for the sign but I decided it would detract from the accents on the sign.  This is just my personal opinion.  If you want to change the twine to ribbon, that certainly can be done.

To enhance the stem, I simply cut a piece of wire from the spool of Rustic Wire and wrapped it around the stem.  To make the curly pigtail at the end of the wire, I wrapped the wire around a pen and then pulled the pen out of the wire.  The Rustic Wire is very easy to work with.

The texture of the Rustic Wire and the cute little pig tail treatment really make the stem stand out!

Preparing The Diamond Wire Circles

In order to make the circles, you will need a pair of needle nose pliers and a piece of Diamond wire.

By grabbing the tip of the wire with your pliers, you can bend the wire in a circular shape.  You can make the circles as big as you would like.  I made these about the size of a quarter.

To make the accent piece for the leaf area, I make circles on both ends of the wire, After I had my circles made, I   bent the piece of wire slightly off center and made a loop at the top .

Attach The Diamond Wire Circles with the Boullion Wire

I ran a length of boullion wire thru the loop and then tied the accent piece to the top of the sign.

This certainly a great way to give this sign a new look.

I enjoy wire that’s covered. It is easy to work with and adds a natural look.
