Gracie Mae Snyder

10/28/2009 – 9/18/2024

My heart is broken.  Dave and I made the decision to put our sweet little Gracie Mae to sleep.  She had stopped eating and didn’t really seem to know us.  Early Wednesday afternoon, we put her in her travel crate and I drove her to the vet.  And of course, in true Florida style , it was storming!  Once we got to the vet, the staff took us into a more private area.  The vet gave her a quality of life exam and told me it was time to let her go.

The vet tech took her away to put a catheter in her leg.  When they brought her back to me, her leg was wrapped up in a white bandage with a blue heart on it.  I probably should have taken a picture of it, it was very precious, but I was crying too hard.  The vet gave her a shot to help her sleep and handed her back to me.  She quickly dozed off in my lap.  After a short time, I let them know I was ready for the next step.  I wasn’t really but I knew it was time.  Shortly after the vet gave her the 2nd shot, she crossed over.

Gracie entered our lives as a 4 month old puppy.  She went to “work” with me in the flower shop almost every day.  She really was a sweet dog but she liked to show the boy dogs in the neighborhood that she was the boss.  A cattle dog moved into the neighborhood earlier this year and he was terrified of her!

Gracie knew I would be a wreck and wouldn’t be able to write her a eulogy so she suggested I reshare a post she had “written” a few years ago.

I miss her terribly.

My Life In Florida by Gracie Mae Snyder

small dog playing with phone

Hello, Everyone!  I am Gracie Mae Snyder!  My dad left his phone in the chair so I am taking the opportunity to write a post about how I spend my time in Florida!

Friend from Illinois

When people come to visit, it is my job to entertain them.  Almost all the visitors love me!  Laurie was very fond of me and even let me give her doggy kisses on her face!

Mom says I am very hard on my toys.  That is why I don’t have very many .  I keep the ones I do have close to me as much as possible.  I really like my pizza slice and my rope toy.  I do have a couple of balls and some chew bones in my bed.

I found some money in my Mom’s purse when we still lived in Illinois.  She thought I was going to buy her a present with it!  Ha!  I saved it so that once we got to Florida, I could buy a new hat!

See, I am already for the summer holidays in my new hat!  Mom didn’t need a present anyway,  I should be enough of a present for her!

I did have a big responsibility this past winter.  I was the general contractor that was overseeing the pool construction.  I made sure the guys kept working!  I also made sure they cleaned up after themselves!

Being in charge every day made me very tired.  I had to take a nap at the end of the day!

Like my Dad, I don’t miss the snow!  Well, there isn’t snow this time of year in Illinois where I used to live but there certainly is in the winter!  Why, when I was a baby, the snow must have been at least a foot deep! My ballerina like legs were just covered in it!  My legs are so long, my Uncle Rick said they were ballerina like!  don’t you agree!

Gracie as a puppy with snowy feet

Well, I better go….  I think I hear Dad coming!  Until next time!

Thank you so much, Cindy! 2024 has been a challenging year! I am more than ready for it to be over! While I knew the day would come when I would have to make a decision about Gracie, I still hoped it wouldn’t come this soon. Thank you for your kind words and friendship!
