Decorating Ideas Using Garden Gates

Love the look of a vintage wrought iron gate? Here are a few creative decorating ideas using garden gates!

Wrought Iron Garden Gate

Before we get into the specifics of how to decorate with garden gates, I would like to tell you about this vintage garden gate.

This gate was originally part of the fence around my house in Cincinnati, Ohio. I brought it back with me when I moved back to Illinois years ago. My Mom propped it between these two trees and we didn’t realize the trees had grown into it until I tried to pull it up to bring it to Florida!

Fortunately I was able to bring back its “twin”. I finally got it out of my van and into my garden!

I love the look and feel of vintage wrought iron.  That is one of the reasons I wanted to keep the two gates from my house in Ohio.  I haven’t found a picture yet of my house in Cincinnati before I removed the wrought iron gates.  As soon as I do, I will share it with you!

A Pair Of New Wrought Iron Gates

When I was planning my final trip to Illinois, I found this set of wrought iron gates that would be perfect as a fireplace screen for the farmhouse fireplace mantel. I was able to order them and have them shipped right to the farm.  I had a lot of fun on one Sunday staging the fireplace with various vignettes.

The gates look great by themselves or as a backdrop for other items.

Before decorating the mantel, I added this piece of old fencing.  It has the perfect gray patina.  I am finding myself drawn to shades of gray right now.

In front of the gray fence, I propped up this garden themed sign.  I had found it at one of my favorite stores on one of my other trips back to Illinois .  The sentiment behind the sign is very meaningful to me.

An old pitch fork, a set of candlesticks, a trio of garden gnomes and a small piece of architectural salvage complete the mantel.  The hearth is accented with a bundle of white silk flowers, wrought iron fireplace tools and a set of gardening encyclopedias.  A gray tool box filled with faux herbs is placed on a mercury glass tray in front of the set of garden gates.  The mercury glass tray is accented with a pair of metal heart shaped boxes.

Creating European dish gardens are one of my favor Creating European dish gardens are one of my favorite things to do! Why are they called European dish gardens? Because of the types of plants used and how they are “planted” in the container. By leaving the collection of green and blooming plants in their pots, the dish garden is quick to put together. #europeandishgarden #bloomingplants #containergardening #containergarden #gardenstyledecor #fromfarmhousetoflorida #kimstyledecor
