Nothing says Christmas more than a poinsettia! I love to use something other than the traditional red poinsettia. Novelty poinsettias are my favorite!
A few weeks ago, I found a Peach Glitter poinsettia, definitely one of the non-traditional Christmas colors. I just love the peach color! Peach is actually my favorite color!
Easy Ways to Add A Holiday Touch
Let’s Start with the Fall European Dish Garden I made for Thanksgiving.
Fall Poinsettia European Dish Garden
With just a few small changes or tweaks, as I like to call them, this Fall themed dish garden can be turned into a holiday themed one! In an earlier blog post, I described the steps in actually making the European dish garden. The steps can be found here:
For Christmas, I added a pair of brown jingle bells, which are very hard to see in the picture.
I also removed the candle holder part and placed the terra cotta pot on a tray that had glittery stars around the edge. I placed a Merry & Bright holiday sign in front of the European Dish Garden. Doesn’t it look festive?
You could also add some ornaments and even some ribbon to make your European Dish Garden even more festive!
Another option would be to leave the garden in the iron candle holder.
The regular candles were only used for the picture. They wouldn’t be safe to use next to the live plants. Battery tapers would be perfect. I need to order some new ones for myself!
If Peach Isn’t your Thing
You could substitute a White glitter poinsettia for the peach glitter one if you would prefer.
Yes, you can use red! Here is an example of a European dish basket I made when I still did flowers as a profession. This basket has a 4 inch poinsettia, a pink kalanchoe and a 4 inch frosty fern with a snowman hat accent.
There are so many colors of poinsettias available now! You are sure to find one that fits your color scheme!
A Stunning Combination – Another Option or two!
I am actually in love with the Diamond Point! Diamond Point is a Proven winners term for the combination of a poinsettia with Diamond Frost. You can read more about Diamond Frost here:
How to Create a Christmas European Dish Garden with Gingerbread Accents
When the Peach Glitter poinsettia gets tired of being with the orange kalanchoe, she likes to nestle in the Diamond frost in the front yard! Only try this idea if you live where the temperatures stay above freezing! Like my husband, poinsettias don’t like the cold!

It is fun to try something different, isn’t it?

There are some great ideas here. I love that you’ve chosen non-traditional colours – red and gold doesn’t suit everyone’s taste. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, Carol! People seem to like Red for Christmas but it is nice to be able to offer alternate ideas! When I had the flower shop, I could list off 10 colors of carnations or 6 colors of roses and they always wanted red! Same with poinsettias!
