Decorating with Vintage Christmas Ornaments
Inspired by various people sharing their pink trees on Instagram, one year I decided to decorate a 2nd tree using vintage pink ornaments. The pink vintage ornaments belonged to my Mom. She purchased them in Chicago at Marshall Fields in the early 60s. Most of the other glass ornaments I have collected over the years. I haven’t used the pink ones in years. After I was finished, I actually found I missed decorating with vintage Christmas ornaments!
Why had I stopped using them? Truthfully, during the years I was a florist, I was usually exhausted by the time I had time to decorate my own tree! It wasn’t uncommon for me to be decorating the tree on Christmas eve or even Christmas morning! I simply didn’t want to drag them all out for such a short time!

Making Room for The Tree
Making room for a tree seems to be a familiar theme now that we live in a much smaller house! I wrote about Where to Put the Tree in an earlier post.
Since the process involved moving furniture and figuring out how to raise the tree up so it could be seen from the street, I waited till Dave went to church one Sunday. He gets nervous when I start moving furniture around! Whoever invented the furniture slider is a genius! They make moving even a heavy couch a breeze! Once you get the sliders under the feet of course! I provided a link to my favorite ones at the end of the post.
I needed to move the couch out from the window and put something behind it to hold the tree. In order to raise the tree up, I placed this white bench on top of a slender long folding table. I brought this bench back from Illinois during one of my trips back and forth while finishing up the downsizing process. I found it at my favorite Central Illinois antique store.
The 3 foot tree fit perfectly on top of the bench. Things took longer than I planned and I only got the tree in place before Dave got home. Isn’t that how it always goes?
I decorated the tree completely before carefully picking it up and placing it on top of the bench .

The tiny pink baby shoes were mine as a baby. If you have been following the blog, you already know my Mother saved practically everything! If you are just getting started with my blog journey, you can read more about my Mom and her propensity to save things here: She used to tell people to check with her first before purchasing something as she probably had what they were looking for! And a lot of the time, she did!
There was room on the bench to display the Nativity set that was Dave’s. I added the “He is Born” block to the top of the manager. I made it in art class or for 4-H when I was growing up. I found it when I was cleaning out the farmhouse.
In the next picture, you can see the pink celluloid camels that also belonged to my Mom. Dave is not a fan of the camels, but I think they work well with the Nativity and my pink theme.
The pastel box in the corner is a vintage box that originally held cards. My Mom had saved it… I know… you are shocked! I couldn’t bear to throw it away. It has such a sweet scene on the front!
After decorating the tree, I had a lot of ornaments left over! I guess my Mom wasn’t the only one who liked to collect!
