A Spring Refresh for My Home… and My Heart
An easy Spring decorating idea filled with gentle, nostalgic charm incorporating a vintage garden book, potted plants and your favorite dough bowl!
Spring has a way of nudging me back toward the things that feel like home — old garden books, worn wooden tools, soft blooms, and the gentle rituals that make a space feel alive again. This year, that nudge feels a little deeper. I’ve been craving small, meaningful refreshes that bring lightness back into my home and a bit of renewal back into my heart. As I started gathering a few spring plants and my favorite brocante pieces, I realized something: I didn’t need a big project. I just needed a moment — a vignette, a breath, a reminder of what I love. So I created a simple spring arrangement using the things that always inspire me: vintage garden books, old tools with stories in their handles, and a handful of blooming plants in soft, hopeful colors. And with that in mind, I turned to the pieces that always feel like spring to me — the vintage garden books, the worn tools, the soft blooms — and let them guide the rest of this refresh.
Just as I was settling into this quieter approach to spring, the invitation for today’s Spring Blog Hop arrived — perfect timing for a simple, heartfelt project. I am honored to join today’s Four Seasons Interior Design Spring Blog Hop hosted by MaryJo Materazo of Masterpieces of my Life and Susan Peterson of From Bay to Beach . Their invitation arrived during a cold snap, and it sparked the desire to create a new Spring centerpiece. Thank you so much, ladies for the opportunity to join your blog hop.
With the hop in mind, I wanted to share something that felt true to my season and my style. I decided what could be more perfect than sharing a Spring dough bowl centerpiece styled with a vintage garden book, a little nod to the stories and seasons that shape my home. It’s an easy, early‑spring vignette that brings a soft touch of the garden indoors.

I’ve learned so much over the years, and sharing those lessons has become one of my greatest joys. Sometimes that looks like a story from my life, other times it’s a craft, a recipe, or a simple idea that makes home feel a bit more loved. And yes — you’ll often see me swap “thyme” for “time,” because around here, the garden has a way of sneaking into everything I do.
My hope is that your thyme here today leaves you inspired — maybe to see your home or your garden with fresh eyes, or to use something you already have in a new, creative way.
A Few of My Favorite Spring Things
As I gathered pieces for this vignette, I naturally reached for the things I’ve loved for years — the items that always seem to tell the story of Spring in my home.
I’ve collected old garden tools and vintage books for years — long before I ever thought about styling them for a blog post. There’s something comforting about the patina of a well‑used trowel or the worn edges of a garden manual that’s passed through many hands. One of my favorites is an old copy of How to Know the Wild Flowers. The cover alone feels like spring — botanical, nostalgic, and full of quiet charm. Paired with a few blooming plants, it becomes the heart of a simple spring vignette.

A Gentle Spring Vignette
With those pieces in hand, I kept the styling simple and let the materials speak for themselves. I gathered:- a few blooming plants in soft pinks and blues
- a heart‑shaped angel vine topiary
- one of my vintage garden books
- a favorite old garden tool
- a rustic wooden carrier and an oval dough bowl

A Quiet Nod to the Past
And as often happens when I decorate for spring, a few tender memories found their way in too. Several of those memories involved my Mom. She loved flowers, and she loved making things beautiful in her own simple way. Some of the pieces in this vignette — like the herb‑patterned placemat she once covered in contact paper — carry her memory in the sweetest, most unexpected ways. I don’t center the whole season around nostalgia, but I do let those little reminders weave themselves in. They make the refresh feel deeper, more rooted, more like a continuation of a story rather than a new chapter.Letting Spring In, One Small Moment at a Time
This year, my spring refresh isn’t about big projects or dramatic changes. It’s about:- clearing a little visual noise
- bringing in gentle greenery
- creating one meaningful vignette at a thyme
- letting go of what feels heavy
- inviting in light and fresh air
Another plant to add is Blue Evolvulus or Morning Glory. It has lovely blue blossoms. The leaves are small and oval in shape. I love how wispy it looks! It is a true blue color. Blue blooming plants are very hard to find. The small blossoms of the blue evolvulus are similar to the forget me not plant.

Here is how the plants look with their pots covered with a speed cover and arranged in one of my favorite wooden carriers. To add extra interest, I placed the plant filled carried inside one of my long oval dough bowls.
Don’t the plants look so cute in the divided carrier? I added the old book to the vignette. The cover is just so pretty!

While the centerpiece looks pretty, I felt is needed a little extra touch. A heart shaped Angel Vine topiary supplied the WoW factor I was seeking. I decided to put this angel vine topiary in a white pot and display it on an old piece of architectural salvage. Angel vine is just such a sweet little plant! I really love using it!
Putting the Farmhouse Dough Bowl Dish Garden Together
Once everything was gathered, the assembly came together in the simplest, most intuitive way. After wiping out the dough bowl, I simply started adding the plants! There really isn’t a right or wrong way to place the plants. I did want to highlight the angel vine so I placed it in the center and first put the faux forget me nots (Blue Evolvulus) around the angel vine.
Then I decided to move the Blue Evolvulus to the ends of the dough bowl and add the dianthus closer to the angel vine. I tucked in a flower pot at the end and added the old book in the front.

A Few Last Thoughts
Spring has a way of reminding us that renewal doesn’t always arrive in grand gestures — sometimes it begins with one small moment, one bloom, one beloved object brought back into the light. This little dough bowl centerpiece did exactly that for me. It gathered together the things I love most — old garden books, simple plants, worn tools, and a whisper of memory — and turned them into a gentle reminder that beauty often starts right where we are.
If today’s post sparked even one new idea or encouraged you to look at something you already own with fresh eyes, then I’m grateful. That’s the heart behind everything I share here: simple inspiration, rooted in story, that helps you create a home you love one meaningful vignette at a thyme.
