Need a simple sugar mold decorating idea for the holidays? Simply add a few ornaments and some bottle brush trees to a wooden sugar mold!

Today, I am excited to share an easy sugar mold decorating idea for the holidays!   All of the elements I used to decorate this sugar mold were things I already had on hand.

Let’s get started!

Sugar Mold Decorating Idea for the Holidays

What is A Sugar Mold?

You may be wondering just what a sugar mold is.  Wooden sugar molds, also known as sugar cones, were commonly used in the 19th century to shape and store sugar. These molds were made from sturdy wood and featured multiple holes to hold the sugar cones. Today, these antique molds have become popular decorative items.

If you can’t find an antique one, there are reproduction pieces available.

Sugar molds come in all different sizes.  I may have a slight sugar mold problem! I have two 6-hole ones (one white, one natural), a 3 hole one and one that just has one hole.  I really would like to have one with twelve holes as well!  I find them charming and so much fun to decorate!

All of my sugar molds are reproduction pieces.  While the sugar mold will stand on its own, a wrought iron stand can be a useful accent to the piece. It gives the sugar mold a little more height and adds stability in case the final creation is top heavy.

Simple Holiday Decorating Idea

To make the simple sugar mold pictured above, all you will need is:

a wooden sugar mold. I used one with 6 holes.

a few bottle brush trees:

and a few vintage ornaments,  Using a sugar mold is a great way to display your extra ornaments!

Once you have your elements gathered, all you need to do is place them in the sugar mold! So simple and easy!

Once I had the sugar mold decorated, I add a few more items to complete the vignette. I love incorporating garden accessories to my displays like this old galvanized watering can!

I decorated this sugar mold for winter!  It didn’t take any time at all!

This idea was one I used for Summer but it would also work for Spring! I am not sure this one should even count since it was so easy to do.  What is really neat about this one is how I made the “flower” out of an old pillow case!

For the next idea, I propped a sign on top of the white sugar mold and used it as a backdrop for a garden of “planted” tulips.

A Few More Ideas for Everyday

Sugar molds are available in a variety of sizes.  They are so fun to decorate!

During the holidays, I like to keep extra greenery picks, ribbon and berry picks on hand.

The little bundles of greenery are the perfect size to use to add a festive touch to your displays.  They can also be used as package toppers or added to a gift basket to add a special touch.

The sugar mold can be used in your office to hold pens, pencils, scissors, etc.  Makeup brushes could be stored in a sugar mold in your bathroom.  In the kitchen, you could use the sugar mold to hold silverware or utensils.

The possibilities are endless!
