Simple Fall Farmhouse Front Porch

Looking for some simple ways to refresh your porch or entryway for the fall season?  Let me show you how I did it!

A Blank Slate

A few years ago, I made a quick trip to Illinois to freshen up the farmhouse for a fall broker open house and real estate showings.  I wanted to make the front porch inviting.

Originally, I planned to purchase pots of mums.

However, the greenhouse I went to outside of Arthur, Illinois was out of mums but they had these magnificent late summer pots.

One of my favorite plants is Diamond Snow!  I was immediately drawn to these two planters!  When I commented on the Diamond Snow in the planters, the greenhouse owner said ” you really know your plants!  Most people don’t know the names!”  I admitted that I was a former florist!

You can find out more about Diamond Snow here:

If only I hadn’t sold that white chair:

This late summer planter just needed a quick haircut , some deadheading and the addition of a couple of white pumpkins to be ready for the fall season!

The burlap stand is actually an empty 5 gallon pickle covered with burlap and mesh.  Isn’t it adorable?

The wrought iron handrails came from a Catholic Rectory in Paris, IL.  You can read about how I found them here:

The greenhouse had some interesting grasses as well as some herb plants.  I purchased a mint called Berries and Cream and a lavender plant.  I have missed having herbs in the garden!

The concrete birdbath in the background belonged to my paternal grandmother.  I would love to move it to Florida but I fear it is too fragile to make the trip!

I just love using garden antiques in my outdoor living areas.  I share several tips in this post: How to Decorate with Antique Garden Tools & Accessories
