Spread the love

Are your wrought iron chairs looking a little faded? I would love to share my easy wrought iron chair refresh idea!

Do your wrought iron patio chairs need a bit of a refresh? Has the sun faded them?  I have some easy wrought iron patio chair painting tips to share with you!

This set of 4 chairs had been left to languish along the west side of our house for months.  Way longer than they should have been left out in the hot Florida sun! Do you think I can save them?

You may remember I recently refreshed several other pieces of wrought iron patio furniture and shared those techniques with you here:

Wrought Iron Patio Furniture Painting Tips

I used the same process to refresh these chairs.  In case you missed the post, I will add them here.

Steps to Refreshing Your Wrought Iron Patio Furniture

  • Use mild soap & water to clean off your patio furniture.  Be sure to rinse well.  Allow time for the furniture to dry
  • Choose the color & type of paint you want to use.  For my refreshing project, I am going to be using spray paint
  • prep the area where you will be painting.  Choose a well ventilated area.  I normally will spray paint outdoors
  • after shaking the can of spray paint very well, paint your furniture
  • allow the wrought iron patio furniture to dry , apply a 2nd coat if necessary
  • once you are happy with how the piece looks and the paint is dry, you are ready to move it to your patio, deck or lanai.
  • relax & enjoy!

Let’s Get Started

Here is what the chairs looked like before I did my magic refresh!  I will talk about the lovely yellow chair seats a bit later in the post.  Yes, I do believe I might not have been in my right mind when I picked out that color…..

two green chairs before being refreshed

After washing all the dirt and accumulated ick off of the chairs, I covered up the decorative flower with painter’s tape.  Now I was ready to start spray painting.

chairs lined up ready to spray paint

I just happened to have a can of green spray paint that was very close to the original color of the chairs.   It was an American Accent color Hunt Club Green  by  Rust-oleum.   The aqua color was what I used to brighten up the floral medallion.

It took two coats of the Hunt Club green to cover the chairs.

Once the chairs were totally dry, I was ready to paint the medallion part.  For some reason, I don’t have in progress photos of this part so I will just explain it.  I covered up the back of the chairs and just left the flower part exposed.  I used the Rust-oleum Gloss Ocean Mist for the flower medallion.   I may go back and add a little more detailing with some gold at some point. Don’t they look much better?

Let’s Talk About the Chair Pads

The chairs originally had seats that were upholstered with an ivy fabric. After being stored in the corn crib for a number of years, the chair pads were shot.  When I still lived in Illinois, I had the yellow ones made at an Amish canvas shop.  The yellow color was all they had available at the time.  So, I chose the yellow.  I have since decided the chairs looked a little to Green Bay Packerish so I looked for a solution.

I found some waterproof seat covers on Amazon so I ordered 4.  They work perfectly!  They have elastic and slip right over the existing chair pad.

Now It Is Thyme To Relax & Enjoy!

Coming Soon!

I know it doesn’t look like much in the picture but wait until I get done giving it a Kim Style makeover!  And look!  There are the green chairs when they were stored in the corn crib on the farm!  Don’t they look sad?

I absolutely love the patina on this tabletop.  Here is a sneak peak of it.  It is still a work in progress but I love it!

Shopping Links to My Favorite Spray Paints

There are many colors of Rust-oleum Spray Paint Available.  I am including links for single cans of Black and a link for a 6 pack of Black Rust Reformer as well as a green and an aqua similar to what I used.

This Green is very similar in color to what I used.

This is the Aqua color that I used.

I recently purchased this color of the Rust-oleum Chalked paint for a different project.  I will share it with you soon!

my go to Linen White!

These are the chair covers that I purchased to cover the lovely yellow chair pads. They come in many many colors.  I thought the beige worked best for my situation.
