What Does a Former Pizzeria Owner Eat On Vacation?

What do you eat on vacation if you are a pizzeria owner? Pizza , of course! And of course, it is never as good as your own!

I often say I went from flowers (a former florist) to flour (a former pizzeria owner)! More details about my entrepreneurial journey can be found here: Sprout, Grow, Bloom

In the Spring of 2018, we took a Caribbean cruise that included a stop at the island of Bequia. We were told about a restaurant that had lobster pizza!  We were anxious to try it!

Once we placed our order, I tried to look in their kitchen to see what type of oven they had.  They shooed me away from the window area.  I think they thought I was going to steal their secrets!

The lobster pizza was delicious!  I believe this was a 10″ pizza or what we would consider a small pizza.  It was enough for both of us.  The pizza included a tomato based sauce as well as lobster and cheese.  Dave and I thought it would have been even better with either an alfredo sauce or perhaps just crust, garlic butter, herbs , lobster and cheese.  I am going to have to try to make it with the alfredo sauce sometime myself!

In October 2019, we were fortunate enough to take a trip to Europe that included two nights on the island of Lido which is near Venice.  While on Lido, I decided to try out their pizza.

While the taste was ok, I was a bit disappointed with the presentation of the pizza.  The 4 toppings were divided into quadrants unlike layered over the entire pizza like we are used to.  The crust was very thin.  I think the pizza was actually cooked on a flat top grill like one would grill hamburgers on rather than in a pizza oven!

While I enjoyed eating pizza cooked by others, my favorite is still the pizza I cook myself!
