Easy No Sew Slipcover Treatments for Wingback Chairs

If you can’t find a ready made slipcover, a very easy no sew slipcover can transform the look of your outdated chair!

As an Amazon Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases

Years ago, my Mom bought us two matching wingback chairs.  Wingback chairs are very traditional and can adapt to a variety of decorating styles.  I wanted to keep these chairs but the hunter green color was a bit (ok, more than a bit) dark for the look I was going for in Florida.

Slipcovers can hide fabric that doesn’t match your current color scheme or help hide worn out upholstery.  Truthfully, one of the chairs had already undergone a slipcover transformation when we still lived in Illinois.  I had ordered this Shabby Chic/Rachel Ashwell looking slipcover a number of years ago.  It had the subdued floral motif that I wanted in the Florida house.  I washed it in the washing machine along with its matching throw pillow and added this chair to the master bedroom.

We brought furniture, accent pieces, & kitchen equipment to Florida in stages.  The matching wingback came down to Florida in the 2nd professional moving truck.  You can read about that here:  I lived with the dark hunter green fabric thru the holidays until one day, I just couldn’t live with it anymore.  I wanted to change it and wanted to change it right then.

A quick check on line to see if any of the stores had what I needed resulted in disappointment.  Not wanting to accept defeat, I went to my stash of sheets, curtains and material to see if there was anything that would work until I could order exactly what I wanted.  I had saved a neutral piece of twill fabric from my Mom’s stash of fabric.  I grabbed it, some  straight pins and went to work.  Is it perfect?  No, it is not.  I didn’t have quite enough fabric.  It probably isn’t even perfect enough to share on the blog but it is a vast improvement over the hunter green!  With strategic placement, I can camouflage the fact I am a bit short on my material.

I used pearl headed straight pins.  All the pinning is done towards the back of the chair with the sharp point of the pin tucked into the fabric so no one gets their fingers pricked!

I recently learned of a different type pin that might give a better result than the straight pins.  They are called Twist Pins!  Someone on another site recommended them to me!  I am anxious to give them a try!

The end result

The finished chair!  It love how easy it is to change the look of the chair with the addition of a throw pillow!

Pillow covers are another option!  They can be easily changed for the different seasons and take up very little room when not in use!  Use them to cover an existing pillow or an insert!  Just be aware that covers and inserts come in a variety of sizes.  You will want to match the size of the cover to the size of the inserts!

thank you , Jennifer! It was quick and easy! I do think I would use the spiral pins on a chair that got heavy use. With just two of us, this one doesn’t get a lot of use so the straight pins work great!

      thanks for reading and commenting!

What a great idea for a temporary fix! I like that it could be unpinned, washed and put back on.
