Need a quick & easy idea to style an oval dough bowl for autumn? A simple hand tied bouquet of faux flowers is one option!
Since we know what we are going to use for the base of our centerpiece, let’s turn our attention to what we are going to make to fill it!
Let’s Get Ready to Learn How to Style an Oval Dough Bowl for Autumn
Autumn Thyme Decorating Tips
PREPARING THE HAND TIED BOUQUET
I already had two bouquets of mixed greenery accented with the purple berries and faux white tallow berries. I began by deconstructing the pre made bouquet. I removed the raffia that was holding it together and gently pulled off a few stems of greenery. Because the stems were individually wired, it was easy to bend the stems to make the bouquet look more natural and wispy.
It was easy to add a few silk fall leaves, some wispy natural colored twigs and two stems of golden toned accent flowers. After I had the flowers in place, I secured the stems with a rubber band to hold them together.
After the stems were secure, I simply used brown floral tape to wrap the stems. The floral tape sticks to itself as you stretch it around the stems. A gentle pull is all it takes. If you pull too hard, the tape will rip. The picture below is an example of stems wrapped in the brown tape. It isn’t the actual bouquet for this project as I forgot to take a photo before I moved on to the next step!
HANDLE TREATMENT
After the brown tape is in place, to finish the stem treatment, I added twine.
To do this, I started at the top of the handle (the stems) and tied a piece of twine. Then I wrapped the twine around the handle twice and tied a knot at the top.
To add more interest to the bouquets, I added a bow. I made a simple twine bow.
READY TO STYLE THE DOUGH BOWL
Late Summer/Early Fall Arrangement
I normally keep the oval dough bowl decorated for the season. The picture above is how it was most recently styled . I removed all the elements and dusted the bowl.
Now that it is empty, we are ready to add the elements for Autumn!
To add extra texture, I laid a piece of off white mesh fabric in the bowl and then placed the bouquet on top of the mesh fabric. The piece of mesh is actually a strip I cut off of a rug pad. As a finishing touch, I nestled a small wooden heart shaped bowl at the end.
